Nap time schedule hell

Ok, LO is 6 months now and my parents and my in laws do child care while I'm at work. But they can't get her to nap lately. Which means I need a more structured schedule. But I can't figure out one thing. Say I determine naps at 9am, 12pm, and 3pm are best. Then what if she sleep till 11:30am for her first nap and then isn't ready for the 12pm nap? Do you guys just have a tentative schedule and then put LO back to bed every 90-120 minutes? Help!

Re: Nap time schedule hell

  • No schedule here either. But she tends to nap within an hour and half after waking, another one between 11 and 1 and maybe 1 short one sometime after. Bedtime is 7 30. I just follow her cues and some days she's no where near her normal sleeping times.

  • Thanks everyone!!
  • We don't have a schedule either, but she has at least three naps a day, sometimes four, and I put her down at most 2 hours after she last woke up...I tried scheduling too, but just as you said, durations were variable and that impacts when they are tired again. (Although if you find something that works, please post!)

We don't have set times, but I do the 2 hour after waking. No nap is the same for us.

*I had a heck of a time looking for her cues, as she went from happy to over tired so fast so that's why I do 2 - 2.5 hour before the next one. Helped us a lot.

  • What I go by more than a "time of day" is "how long she has been awake". We consistently put her down for a nap after exactly 2 hrs of her being awake. That provides for the flexibility of like you said, if she takes a shorter or longer nap, then it doesn't matter because we always just put her back down 2 hrs after she wakes up. I read this nap chart thing online that says about 2 hrs of awake time is about what babies this age can handle.
  • I do the 2 hour schedule also, unless he slept really short, then he goes down earlier. Wakes at 10:30 am, goes back down at 12:30, etc, repeat all day.
This part of babyhood is really unpredictable because of it, but eventually you'll have LO on 1 or 2 naps on a schedule. In like a year
    ;)  j/k in a few months.
