Breech Babies!

As I posted yesterday, we found out our dude is breech. First off, I'm only 20 weeks so I'm not worried. He has plenty of room to 'run' around and lots of time to get where he needs to be ;-)

They said everything measured right on time and looked great, so we're really excited. Just curious to see if anyone else has had this happen and how you felt? I feel a LOTS of pressure and cervical 'stabbing'. It hurts to sit up too far, get up off the couch, lay a certain way...really any stretching at all! Pretty sucky but so glad everything else is going well :)

  • FTM here and don't really have any advice. In fact I'll be going in for my A/S today. But in any case, if the baby's breeched, then just be prepared for it and don't have any stringent birth plan as getting the baby out will be the priority. Happy pregnancy to you!

@aragosta have you felt the pressure also? I'm a FTM so what I'm feeling may very well just be the misery of another human living inside me, but I feel like I should be able to stand up without pain.

The tech also mentioned to me that it will make me look larger, so....fabulous :| lol

  • I was breech, my mom said it felt like I was standing up in there.

She didn't really know I was breech until she went into labor. I was supposed to be born by c-section when they discovered I was breech, but I apparently didn't want to wait that long, I was born feet-first in the middle of them prepping my mom for the c-section.

Here's another question and a whole separate topic. I guess I never considered ever having to do a C Section. Like I said, I'm not super worried because I feel like I have a lot of time but I'm one SUPER paranoid person. Literally paranoid about everything lol...Does mortality rate of a C Section far surpass a vaginal delivery?

Idk if you can tell...FTM here...terrified lol

  • During my SIL's 3rd tri, my niece flipped twice, once into a breech position and once out of it.  It scared the crap out of her when it happened - it is very different from regular movement.  When she flipped back, it was in the middle of the night and woke her up.

  • Breech at this point means nothing.  Babies start to turn head down in preparation for delivery when their heads get bigger and heavier many weeks from now.  There is still a ton of room in there.  My baby was breech at my 19 week U/S and it just meant we didn't get any good pictures :p

  • At my ob appt last week, A was vertex, B was breech. They had a little yin and yang thing going on. I am curious to see if they've moved at all at my A/S next Friday! I also leaned they both have anterior placentas, which may explain why I haven't felt much, if any, movement.

  • My girl was Frank breech at my 18 wk A/S. I think she flips around a lot because there's sometimes really strong kicks up by my belly button and other times they are down closer to my pubic bone. Today she got me really good in the lower portion while I was eating lunch and I jumped.

And for those worrying that you're not getting strong kicks, my placenta is at the top and posterior so she spends a lot of time on the belly side of the uterus which is why I'm getting strong kicks. At least that's what the tech said.

  • My little dude is breech. My MFM doc told me there is plenty of time for him to turn, but I find that doubtful. I was breech the whole time, and my little Liam already seems like he is taking after me. His feet are right over my cervix, and he likes to kick it HARD, and that is less than fun. He also stretches out and pushes on my bladder. Sometimes he just kicks that, too. Also not fun. It makes me feel like I am going to pee myself. Surprised I haven't yet! Sometimes he stretches up, and that gives me a lot of overall pressure.

I'm a weird one, and the thought of vaginal delivery terrifies me, but a c-section doesn't one bit. I have had 3 surgeries, 1 major, 1 moderate, 1 minor, so another surgery seems less scary because I've been there done that. But I've never pushed something out of my vagina!

lol, I totally understand this. The idea of surgery, period, scares me...I've never had ANY before. I'd still be nervous, but probably not as nervous as if they just cut me open and pulled him on out hahah.

You could probably google it and find stats pretty easy, but I think
technically, yes, there is a higher mortality for C-section but I believe both vaginal and c-section deliveries are below 1%.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Baby boy was feet down at the last ultrasound at 18 weeks.  Doc said no big deal.
    this exactly at 16 weeks
  • N was complete breech at 41 weeks and she wasnt moving. She was breech the entire time too, just liked that position. This baby is sideways right now but it doesn't mean anything yet. There is still so much room in there, the baby can literally be in any position at any time. The u/s just caught them breech.
  • Who was the one who said she went to a Chinese doctor to flip the baby like two weeks out from delivery? I'd keep a Chinese doctor's name in my contacts fsho

  • Lurking from J14 here- breech at this point (20 weeks you say) means absolutely nothing. My baby was breech until 37 weeks. Just had him vaginally 3 weeks ago at 39weeks after he flipped on his own! All is good so it's way too early even think about stressing about this (like c-sections). Plus there are lots of options to try to get baby to turn in the end.

Breech means nothing right now. Your kiddo is moving and grooving in there. You can be breech until the end and the baby decides to flip.

Me too!  Breech!  My tech and high risk doctor are both not very concerned and so I am taking their cues.  I might worry closer to delivery if she doesn't flip on her own.  I will say I also have the pains when I stand up from time to time.  Sharp and short-lived.  As a FTM I assumed it was just a pregnancy thing, but I guess it makes sense if you are having it too.

My baby was breech for a short stint in my first pregnancy. I put earphones with music down by the pelvic region a few times, one of which I think I felt her spin around (could be all in my crazy head, of course). Either way, she moved in time for a vaginal delivery with no external assistance (I forget the procedure name). Sounds like it may be very common and there's good reason to have confidence he or she will correct his/her position in time!

I don't recall any specific pressure or pain. Hopefully that will subside sooner than later!
  • DS was breech until 36 weeks. My old dr had ultrasound machines in each exam room so we had ultrasounds at every appointment. She didn't really seem to concerned about it until about 34 weeks when she mentioned that we could try a few things to get him to turn if he didnt on his own by the next appointment at 36wks as he would be running out of room to do so. He turned on his own sometime in that 2 weeks. I am guessing while I was sleeping because I never felt anything different in movement but I do remember telling my husband I thought he had turned overnight or he decided punching was more fun than kicking now because the "kicks" definitely were coming from up high instead of down low.
