Hormones from weaning or early pregnancy?

No, I don't expect you to predict the results of my pregnancy test. But can symptoms for the first few weeks after weaning mimic early pregnancy symptoms?

I EBF from birth to 1 year. AF returned, regularly, at 4 months. I finished weaning DS right around ovulation this past month.  That was 8 or 9 days ago. Now I feel tired, bloated, sore boobs, not sleeping well, nausea, and all the usual culprits from early pregnancy.

yes, I will POAS if AF doesn't show. I just wondered if any of you experienced similar symptoms when weaning? Thanks!

  • I know you say you know that no one is going to be able to predict whether you are pregnant, but no one else's experience has any relevance to what you are experiencing on this either.
TRUTH! Mostly I'm killing time during a 2WW, going "did you feel this too?" Except it's with BF instead of TTC.

  • I started weaning and had a whole slew of symptoms. Basically all the symptoms you mentioned. I regretted my decision and decided to keep going for awhile and now the symptoms are gone. So I would say yes, weaning can mess with you. You've got to remember your hormones are changing when you wean, I'm sure a lot of women experience all kinds of symptoms similar to both pregnancy and pms.

Of course, you could also be pregnant and I'm not sure if you are hoping for that outcome? So good luck either way!

  • Thanks ladies. We're in the not-trying-not-preventing stage right now. We'd be happy if it happened, but wouldn't sweat it if it didn't. I fully expected sore boobs and mood swings with weaning. I was thrown off by the nausea and bloating and all the other weirdness. Technically, based on the timing of things, I could be pregnant. But it's reassuring to know this could also be weaning related. It keeps me from freaking out too much during the 2WW

My supply started dropping 2 weeks before his first birthday, so I just supplemented his daycare stash with WCM. At his first birthday, I did all WCM for daycare. By then I was only getting about 4oz pumped at work anyway. I kept doing the bedtime nursing session for another week. We stopped that altogether last week. I haven't nursed him for a week, and I haven't pumped for 4 days (and that was just 2oz to relieve engorgement).

  • Based on the timing I'd be willing to bet it's just the weaning. But keep us posted! :)

  • @theresat858 - Yeah, I took one the other day. It was only DPO #7 and I knew it would be negative either way. But it put my mind at ease for now, just to get through until AF is due. (Of course with DS#1 I had a BFP on DPO#8)
