Buying lovies off the interwebs ;)

Kieran's "puppy" is dying a slow painful death. His stuffing is shifting all over the place, he's stained and I've sewn him up once already. Puppy was bought the day Kieran was born at the hospital gift shop and he is extremely attached to it. He sleeps with it, puppy goes to his sitter's and we hardly ever leave home without it. I could not for the life of me locate another one of these damn stuffed animals anywhere. I could do the life lesson thing and explain to Kieran that sometimes we lose things and we have to let go. But alas...I could not. So I spent my lunch break on e-bay and I found him and bought him. There's no point to this. I'm just very pleased with myself ;)

Does your kid have a lovey and what is it? Will/would you replace it if they lose it/it gets damaged.

Re: Buying lovies off the interwebs ;)

  • Neither of my kids have Bern attached to one specific item (except for c with a short two week stint with her teddy), but they're very attached to their blankets. Not a specific one blanket but a type. I've posted before how E is a blanket snob. C is a blanket hoarder!

Yes. I bought the same exact lovey and DD rejected it. So good luck with that! Haha it doesn't work. Wel,l not with us anyway. They don't smell the same.
I'm going to rotate it with the other one so he hopefully thinks they're one and the same. Fingers crossed.

One day at the mall, when Jack was about 2, I wanted to go into Starbucks and get a latte.  I sent DH and Jack to go explore the Disney Store rather than making them hang around and wait for me.  I come out of Starbucks to see my 2 year old (in rain boots on a sunny day, of course) marching out of the Disney Store with a giant stuffed Mickey perfectly nestled in the crook of his arm and a HUGE grin on his face.  DH said, "You should have seen it....it was too cute....I had to buy it for him....It was on sale?"  Anyway Jack LOVES that Mickey.  Loves it.  And guess who else loves it.....Rhys!  So, I decided to get Rhys one of his own to prevent arguments (I make my kids share everything but their lovies--lovies do not have to be shared).  EFFING $22 STUFFED ANIMAL.  So Rhys has one now, too.  And I really hope I never have to replace them.  $22 for a stuffed toy.
You can't put a price on lovies. They buy us time and sanity ;)

I hate to think how much my husband paid for the original puppy in the hospital gift shop. Everything is overpriced in there. I paid $9.89 for this one plus shipping. :::pats self on head:::

Both DD and DS have a lovey and a blanket that they are attached to that we received as gifts before they were born. I had to search high and low in the last few months to get extras of both blankets and both lovies so that we can rotate them through the wash because they quickly start to smell terrible. It's a careful process of hiding the one that's in the wash or not in use so they don't know there are two! :)

I don't know what we'll do if they ever fall apart. At least they never leave the house so chances are we won't lose them.

  • I guess I got off lucky with DS. We used white cloth diapers as spit up rags when he was a baby instead of the ones they sell specifically for it. Well, that's what he is attached to--kinda or like his blankey. He loves it and has one in his crib, at his changing table and downstairs for whenever he wants to carry it around or snuggle it. We have about 30+ of them and he doesn't care which one he has so it's a win/win for me!!

    I'll never run out! :)

  • We have a bunny that M is attached to. It's a brand called jellycat that is fairly easy to find on amazon, but I am still scared it will disappear. Currently we have 2, and one at each grandmas house. I consider buying another about once a month, but DH seems to think 4 is enough
