Vibrating Belly?

I know there have been a number of posts regarding feeling the baby move, and I've tried to read and keep up on them all.  Now I'm not ruling that out as a possibility for explaining what I felt last night but I needed to see what other people are experiencing. As I was watching TV last night, just relaxing on the couch, my hand was on my belly and I could feel this slight vibrating sensation.  My husband was right next to me and he has a tendency to shake his leg or foot.  So initially I thought I was touching him and feeling his movement shaking my arm, hand and belly.  I readjusted my position, and noticed that he actually was still for once, and yet the vibrating sensation continued.  It last something like 2 minutes.  I even had my husband putting his hand on my belly to see if I was crazy.  (I am only almost 15 weeks and overweight so I didn't realllllllllly think it could be the baby I was feeling.)  But my husband felt it too.

So I'm just wondering if anyone else's belly was on vibrate recently and if so, do you think it was the baby or some other reason given all the stuff happening below the waist these days?  I know it wasn't gas because it felt like continual mild, mild shaking of my belly.  My only other thought was that I did a new exercise class for the first time yesterday evening after work, and maybe my body was just reacting to that - like a mild muscle spasm or something? I didn't do anything strenuous and didn't feel sore so I don't know.  Any thoughts are appreciated!  Thanks.

  • It could be food making it's way down your digestive track or something silly like that. As TLD said, baby's movements this early are just short little jabs. I haven't experienced that (at least knowingly) and it sounds so interesting! I'll keep an eye out for it haha

  • Thanks ladies!  I figured it was not the baby, but just wanted to confirm I wasn't totally clueless!

  • I had a similar experience consistently, but around weeks 7-9 so I knew it wasn't baby. Basically I felt a weird vibrating occasionally right under my left ribs. It wold last from a few seconds to maybe 30 seconds, and the might repeat or might not. I chalked it up to a muscle spasm--could have been from my workouts (but that's a weird place) or then I thought my uterus expanding.

But yes, it made me pause even though I knew I couldn't possibly feel the baby at that point!

  • I would also say muscle spasm. Sorry. :( It's still early to feel movement and even earlier for your H to feel it.

This happened with my second baby all the time. It was totally weird. It felt like a buzzing almost like a cellphone on vibrate. My doc thought it was a uterine muscle or ligament being twitchy. It drove me insane! I was constantly checking my cellphone. Lol
  • Thanks ladies! I figured it was not the baby but I couldn't help but wonder because I never had anything like that happen before.
