October 2014 Moms

This baby may not ever have a name.

We just started talking about names and we're in no rush, we've got plenty of time to choose, but I'm starting to see that DH and I are on opposite ends. He like the "country" names like savannah, Georgia, Emmylou, etc... I like more modern or traditional names like Meredith and Presley. My daughter has dibs on naming the new one Molly or Nerd. ;-) Baby may just end up being Peanut until she can decide.

Re: This baby may not ever have a name.

  • DH an I were the same way. He liked Barnabus an Archemedes; I like Dean and Saul. Completely differet kinds of names. I went to a baby name site, put in the names he liked and had it give me related names. I went over all the names that were similar, and it came up with Solomon. We both loved it.

I'm mobile and can't remember the website I used most or I would share it!

  • DH won't agree to anything I throw out there.  Currently I'm fighting for "Harper" and he is so not interested.  We've agreed on the middle name of Michelle, so I think Harper Michelle Husk works.  I also like Natalie and Natasha, but he's not digging those either.

  • See, I love Harper and Natalie and he nixed those immediately and threw out Emmylou??? This man.. I don't know what to do with him. Those websites sound neat tho. If you guys find then, please post!
  • no Emmylou came from @cherylb1201,

Would he consider something like Emily Louise/Lucille instead of Emmylou? You might be able to come up with similar sounding but more mainstream names that appease him. He could always affectionately call Emily "Emmylou."

  • Join the club! I think we've exhausted every name website & I bought a book of 60,000+ names yesterday and STILL! We finally came up with Solomon last night but we'll see how long that lasts... my husband has a nasty habit of liking a name and not liking it a week later.

  • We're in the same boat. Though, can't say there is any particular girl name I love so much that it's worth fighting for. I did really like Briony but dh just isn't feeling it. Plus, I have to admit. It doesn't really roll off the tongue. Kind of like I'm just saying Brian With an ee at the end?

  • We're the same way.. I'm pretty sure DS won't be named until after he comes. My waiting to be emroided nursery bedding is collecting dust.

  • These men are so frustrating. He's been telling me "we'll see" for all my names and all of us mommas know we'll see means no. He told me I can't call her peanut anymore either because he's "not going to call his daughter something you can make butter out of". Oh Lordy, give me strength.
  • Check out www.namberry.com
If you type in a name you like it gives you the meaning and underneath it says if you like this name you may like ..... And then lists a bunch of other names too. I love that website.

For what it's worth DH and I have yet to name DD2 as well. It's not that we disagree, but neither of us feels we've found "the" name. Poor nameless baby girl!

  • DH and I also have very different taste in names so what we ended up doing is making a list each of our top 10 names. Then we went through it and decided that way with DS. With this baby we already had 2 potential first names so it was a lot easier to decide.

  • Naming a human is so hard! For both our babies now, we've kept a list on the refrigerator with three columns: names I like, names he likes, and names we both like. You'd be surprised what overlaps, after a couple or weeks. :) Good luck!
