  • @WorkInIt - what ones did you get and which did you defer?

The CDC has a range of times that are appropriate for things like MMR and chickenpox vaccines - which is why my pediatrician doesn't even give those until 15 months (they do HIB, Prevnar and Hep A at 12 months instead).

So don't feel bad!  You're probably still well within the recommended guidelines!

  • FFFC: A 22-month old died from being left in the car for 7 hours in a town nearby Wednesday.  The dad got arrested and is being brought up on charges of murder.  While I feel for the parents because they lost their child, I am horrified that nobody saw the kid and the dad didn't even realize he was there.  I don't understand how that can happen.  He was 22 months old!  While I think murder is a harsh charge, I think the father should be punished.  7 hours in a car strapped in a car seat in 90+ degree weather would be a horrible way to go.

H won't talk about it.  It bugs him a lot, and not a lot gets to him.

@Cricket81‌ why can't they have it the next day? We give the boys leftover (refrigerated) milk all the time

I guess I assumed it was like formula and bm where it can start to grow bacteria or something? If I'm wrong (or being a silly ftm) then I'll definitely start giving it to him. :)

  • I took wed off for Colton's birthday. I got back to work yesterday to find out that my boss fired 2 out of 5 employees in the firm while I was out, and one of them was an associate like me. She had been here longer than I have, and my boss explained that it was due to the caseload (we recently lost a big client when they closed down their business). Of course, that brought all sorts of emotions of survivor guilt (she was 5 months pregnant also), relief that it wasn't me, scare that it might happen to me if things don't improve, and everything inbetween. All in all, my anxiety level was through the roof all day. So for the first time since I got pregnant, I took a xanax when I got home.  my FFFC is that I nursed Colton this morning without even checking to see if that was safe.

This has been seriously haunting me.  DH and I have talked about it a bit, and I wasn't sure how I felt about the harsh charges (but apparently with the first degree felony of child endangerment - they almost have to bring murder charges?).  I can't imagine what that family is going through.

I definitely regret reading the full article about it - the headline was bad enough.

I do this for WCM in sippy cups all the time. There is too much backwash when he uses straw cups so we don't reuse it, but with sippy cups, we just put the leftover back in the fridge.

This one will probably get me flamed but whatever. At Js 1 year appointment he was supposed to get 2 shots. I only made him get 1 and hes getting the other one next month. (had to be at least 4-6 weeks in between if i didnt get them together) He was a preemie and i personally wanted to wait until he was actually 1 (real due date) for the other shot.
That's not flame-worthy but your logic seems pretty dumb (unless this is what your pedi recommended).  I this it's kinder to get 2 shots at once than need to go back for more.

@araziza exactly!  If you'd drink the milk cricket, he can drink the milk.  Sure, there's probably some bacteria but it's really not likely to make anyone sick.
I feel like its more likely to make HER sick :P

  • @cl8badB Did you go by his adjusted age for all of his shots? I don't get what's special about this one.

Apparently I feel like playing devil's advocate toady :P

  • I still haven't made G's 1 year appointment. Her birthday was yesterday. I didn't want to take her in 2 days before her party just in case she was miserable from the shots. I will be calling today to get her in next week.

I think I have a garage sale shopping problem. Came home yesterday with a play house after driving by a neighbor's sale and today I'm meeting someone to buy one of those double-seat wagons after browsing the local buy/sell/trade facebook site. My husband is not going to be happy, as he has spent the past couple of weekends decluttering our garage. I bought our existing wagon at a garage sale for next to nothing, but it's one of the really old ones and kind of rusty. Because we really need 2 wagons. And we already have a play set in the backyard. As I consider the amount of crap in our garage, I think perhaps I should be the ones having the sale...
Those yard sale groups and garage sale announcements are the best. I come home with stuff on the weekend, DH says where I got it, and I say that it was on the curb. He doesn't need to know how much it was :)

IMO preemies should especially go by the on-time schedule NOT adjusted. They're that much more susceptible to illnesses so why not get them covered ASAP?! The logic of waiting to their adjusted age makes no sense to me.
    To each their own.
Which is why I said IMO.

With that in mind what is the rationale for the MMR occuring after twelve months? It's seems like most docs are pretty strict about it being after the one year date. Mine wouldn't even schedule it for her actual birthday but they didn't give much of a reason besides that's how it's recommended.
That's the vaccine schedule that has been studied extensively by the CDC.  They have some good info about each vaccine if you want to browse on their website. The reason they're strict about the 1 year date is if it's "early", schools won't count it toward their required vaccinations :)
  • Our doctor does the mmr vaccine at 15 months. At 12 months they just do the prevnar and I think hepatitis.

  • @sctiger‌ My pedi does 15 mo, too. They mentioned new research showing it's efficacy is better if you wait until 15 mo. I haven't had time to look up the research yet though.
  • I have no idea what shots DD is getting next week and have no recollection of what DS has already had. Maybe my FFFC is that I just blindly show up to their well visits and do whatever they say. :-\"

I don't remember the vaccine schedule either from ds1- that was only 2 years ago. I just looked it up on their web page because all of this vaccine talk had me wondering. They have their vaccine schedule posted.

You have to admit that this makes a lot of sense though. I mean I thought your reason sounded okay, but not for any legit reason. This sounds legit. But of course, your baby, your choice. You're vaxing, and it's only a month. Not really a big deal.

I don't always clean up from meals right away - especially the floor. My kid thinks it's part of the fun, throwing her food on the floor.

My FFFC is that I don't usually stop her from eating it off the floor later. She has suddenly become this picky, food throwing toddler, and I figure letting her snack on left overs later, is better than her not eating much at all. It's mostly cheerios or bread she throws.
    Ha ha. Me, too!!

@mcbush‌ I think I might purposely leave the food she throws on the floor and put her down beside her highchair when she's finished eating. That's genius.
