Feeling bruised... Blocked duct?

Last night starting around 5 or 6, I noticed a bruise-like feeling in my right breast. It felt like it did the last 3 times I've had a blocked duct coming on. However, I can't really feel any obvious lumps like I have in the past. I've tried heat, massage (with knuckles and a hand-held vibrating massager), pumping, and nursing (even laying LO on the floor and me over him to nurse) but the bruised feeling is still there. I'm afraid that if it is a blocked duct, that it could turn into mastitis. The last 3 times I've had one, nursing and heat have always fixed me. Any ideas of what it could be? (The last blocked duct I had was weeks ago, so it's not just the bruised feeling lingering from that.)

I've had Mastitis twice now without ever feeling a clogged duct. Both times it started with the bruise feeling. Make sure you empty that boob as much as possible. Breast massages and warm compresses really helped me. Make sure to look for redness, swollen lymph nodes, and flu-like symptoms that could indicate Mastitis.

  • if you are massaging that area a lot, it could be causing the sore feeling. i'd try advil and heat for a while and see if that improves it. sometimes after i was aggressively trying to unclog a blocked duct, the area would be sore like that, but it would feel better once i left it alone for a while. i'd also recommend lecithin supplements (taken 4x a day)- they help to break up clogs. also lots of water and resting as much as possible.

    feel better!
