Babymoon- when is the ideal time? Where are you going?

We settled on taking some road trips since I dont want to fly however I am thinking about it again more and if we do fly it would be around end of august- september so would be about 28 weeks or so if i am not mistaken. I know its fine for airplanes but is it too pregnant for comfort level, walking around etc? With ny first we traveled when i was 20 weeks and it was perfect but it wont work out like that this time.

Re: Babymoon- when is the ideal time? Where are you going?

  • Im going on a babymoon with some of my girlfriends at 23 weeks.  We live in New England and are flying to Miami for a weekend.  The hubs and I are thinking about driving to the Cape or Newport, RI for a weekend in the fall, closer to our due date.  No big time trips planned this year, just weekend getaways.

  • We aren't planning a babymoon, exactly, but each year there is a fundraising event that we both participate in (H rides almost 200 miles on his bicycle, and I volunteer). The event is the first weekend in August. We make a long weekend out of it, on Cape Cod. I will be just shy of 25 weeks (with twins).

I don't have any experience to share, but I have the same concern- will I be to uncomfortable to be of any use as a volunteer and/or enjoy our regular fun (mostly lots of mini-golf)?

Being a FTM I really have no way of knowing.
  • We are flying to Chicago the last weekend of July. I will be 25 weeks when we leave. DH and I wanted to get to Wrigley during the 100th anniversary. He is a huge Cubs fan. I am not to worried about walking around. I will just stay hydrated and take a break if needed.

Anywhere between 20 & 30 weeks I think is ideal for a babymoon. I was 24-26 weeks last pregnancy when I went to Europe. This time around Ill be 20-22 weeks & we are going to Ireland then Amsterdam then back to Ireland. Travel time is about 24 hours door to door from where I live in USA to IRL. It was fine last time around, just had my DH help with putting items in the overhead lockers. Funny part was baby took a few days to get into time zone so the most active time for kicking etc. which was usually around 8pm became 4am. Didn't do wonders for me getting over jetlag! lol

We took some shorter road trips too & will be this pregnancy as well. No longer than 6/6.5 hours driving. Anything over 4 hours I have him drive. Just make sure you don't go too far out of reach of a bathroom, did that once & ended up having to pull of the freeway & find a side road & a ditch in the middle of nowhere. I was desperate! :\">

Physically I would have felt fine travelling right up until the end but there comes a time where it is no longer recommended (depending on how your pregnancy is progressing it will be different times for different women).

  • We may do a long weekend at the beach (3 hour drive) in Mid-September, however nothing is set in stone.

  • We'll be flying to Florida the 1st week in August for a relaxing beach vacation.  It will be with family, so not exactly a Babymoon, but I did negotiate for one of the 2 master suites in the house :)

I will be 25 weeks when we leave.  I'm hoping I'll be pregnant enough that people give me extra courtesy, but not pregnant enough to be miserable. LOL!

Our flights are short with a single layover both ways, so I don't think I'll have issues with being cramped on the plane.  Really the flights are almost to short for them to even do drink service.

  • No babymoon for us. DH started a new job at the beginning of this year and he's on contract so he doesn't really have any vacation to take. Plus we're putting all of our extra money into house renos to get ready for the baby.

I'm actually going to NYC this weekend with some friends, so that will be fun! And DH and I are big baseball fans and we have some baseball tickets for the end of September, so I'm hoping we'll make it a mini babymoon and stay overnight in Toronto in a nice hotel and have a fancy dinner. We usually do that once a year anyway, but we haven't done it yet this year.

  • Thanks lol yes our 3 year old is coming with us everywhere...
  • Its hard on on the one hand we want to fly somewhere for a week long vacation but again with a toddler yet being pregnant not being able to drink and take breaks while walking and staying out of the sun etc in a sunny destination doesnt sound that great but next year with a baby and toddler lol ? Ahh at least i wont be pregnant...
  • Babylon for is will be at 22 weeks. We are going on a cruise to the Caribbean. I can't wait!!

  • We'll be going to GenCon (an eight hour drive) in mid August. My husband actually asked a good friend of ours to come along as my babysitter for the weekend after our recent trip to Denver. The elevation was hard on me and I had to ask him to run around a lot for me, so my friend is getting a free hotel room for the convention (the only way she can afford to go) and my husband will be relieved of fetching duty for the con. :D

I'm really happy my friend can come along, but I'm also a little worried about how I'll handle a huge convention at 28 weeks. I'll probably just opt to take it slow and maybe even indulge in a wheelchair if the walking gets to be too much.

  • Had our babymoon last weekend in the Florida Keys at 18 weeks. Stayed at the resort the whole time relaxing by the water and eating from the buffet. It was perfect minus not being able to enjoy the sangria which by far my fav summer drink!
  • Going to Aruba on July 7th. I'll be exactly 20 weeks when we leave!

  • We aren't having an official babymoon but my parents are talking about taking a beach trip in September. We had decided on no family vacation for the 3 of us due to the new appliances and car repairs the last couple of months and still having to redo a room for the baby. However my parents invited us so we will probably crash their trip :) I'll be 29-31 weeks depending on the dates. My dr is ok with me traveling up to 35 weeks as long as there are no complications between now and then.
