Toddler who can't poop STM please help

I'm going crazy my 2 year old has been up all night crying cause she has to poop (hasn't gone in 2 days) but I put her potty and she squeezes and squeezes and nothing. Any helpful hints to make a 2 year old poop?

  • You can try a pediatric enema. My daughter was severely constipated. I took her to the ped and they were able to manually help her a bit (vaseline and a finger- don't do it yourself) but she was still blocked so they suggested an enema. It worked well.

Also, limit dairy, push fruit juice (apple and prune) and lots and lots of water.

  • Unfortunately the pediatritions office is closed till Monday. have to try some prune juice. She drinks lots of apple and eats lots of fruit and very little dairy lately. Thanks for the suggestions definitely buying prune juice today
  • To keep AJ regular I have him sit on the potty every morning after breakfast. Until recently he wouldn't poop outside of the house so I tried to get him to go every morning...cheerios usually gets him going.

If he hasn't gone in a day or two I give him prune juice. He actually likes it and we call it "power juice" and he says it gives his poopy power.

Also, sometimes when he is backed up it feels a little different and he is scared to poop so he will hold it in a little more, she may be doing that.

    good luck!!!

  • Thanks ladies! I'm going to go to the store after breakfast and give the juice a fruit a try first which hopefully helps. I hate seeing her so upset

My pedi also suggested a 1/2 dose of miralax. He also said to limit milk intake and switch to 2%. Pears, apples with the skin, and prunes help things move along for DS too. We started a probiotic and that has really kept him regular.

Pears, peaches, prunes, papaya, and cherry. They all help with pooping!

    This, plus watermelon!

  • My pediatrician told me to give P fruits/juices when my DD was constipated. I found that Gerber makes pear juice that works wonders.

  • My pediatrician recommended pediatric glycerine suppositories when all else fails. Here is a picture of the box.
  • Water, water, water.

  • What everyone else said! There is also a grape juice with extra fiber in it. I can't think of the name of it but we refer to it as "poop juice." DD got so constipated that we had to do Miralax and suppositories. Also a warm bath is supposed to help. Good luck!

  • Not sure if your LO is potty trained or not but I know when my daughter was around the same age she had issues pooping on the potty our dr told us even though she would sitnon it and be all excited to go that she was actually afraid to go and would hold it as long as she could which would back her all up. Not sure if that's any help to you but just something to think about

  • We tried blueberries and activia yogurt for breakfast (since that's all I had in the house this morning) and it work she's gone 2x since lunch and is a much happier child! I am definitely going to keep a bunch of those fruits and juices as part of her regular diet so we hopefully don't have to deal with that. Thanks again ladies! You are the best!!
