Swelling, painful ankles/feet

I apologize if this has already been covered, I tried searching but didn't did anything.

I'll be 22 weeks tomorrow and my ankles and feet in general are killing me. I don't stand at work, but I work 10 hour days and am unable to prop them up. Is anyone else already experiencing this? It seems kind of early to be having this nagging an sometimes throbbing pain. Tia :)

  • I will be 22 weeks tomorrow too :) I've been swelling but for me that usually means I haven't been drinking enough water. It's a problem I've always had. I hope whatever the cause of your swelling may be, that it eases soon.

  • My feet and ankles are killing me as well. Yesterday during an arbitration where I had to sit at a conference fable all day they swelled up so big they were bursting our of my heels. I could barely walk out after we finished. It was so bad I met with clients in flip flops after that and I would never do that normally.

If you find a magic cure please pass it along!

My feet are only swelling a little, but they definitely get sore if I have to stand a lot. I think in my case it's just the extra weight.

  • You may want to re-evaluate the type of shoes you are wearing - this might help.  Nothing too flat or too high and make sure there is adequate cushioning.  If you are having swelling, you may want to also some support stockings - these always helped when I worked long shifts previously.

  • Comfort shoes when you can. They may not be as cute, but they are way more comfortable.  I only work part time, but I'm on my feet the whole time and I'm always on my feet with my kids.

  • I'm going to try to prop my feet up higher at work. I have a small upside down basket under there now, but I don't think it's high enough. I'll have to get compression stockings too. I'm glad I'm not alone on this! It's pretty uncomfortable for sure.

  • Oh yes!  The past two days I worked 15 hours/day, by the time I got home last night, my ankles were huge!  I slept with them elevated on some pillows last night and the swelling had gone down this morning, but they were a little sore when I started walking this morning.

  • I'm with you on the swollen feet. It kind of happened all of a sudden at 23 weeks. I have had a little luck with soaking in Epsom salts when I get home at night. Elevation is definitely key. Hope you feel better.

  • Thanks! I have them up on a upside down garbage can today under my desk. It's crazy how after just a few hours of being awake and moving around, they get so much worse.

  • I'm not swelling, but my ankles are sore. Which is odd, because I have a desk job. I try to make sure I hit 6000 steps a day though, so I take stairs and walk at lunch. I had this last time, too. From late second tri on I wore compression stockings. They helped a lot with swelling.

  • I'm swollen from the calves down nightly! I prop on a box at work. With ds1 it started at 17 weeks and never went away...at least it held out until 24 this time! #positivity. LOL
