I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks, and they saw 2 babies... One they said was healthy and measuring on track (I think they said the heartbeat was 117), and the other was smaller and only had a HR of 79 :-(. They said that one probably won't make it. I have FX because I just don't want to give up on it (especially after we saw a heartbeat!!), but I don't know how realistic I am being...
Thank you for your replies! I have one next week at 7W 3D. I know it's only a week away, but it's such a long week! Then again, so was the week before the first ultrasound... and the TWW... I see a theme :-)
That's how it was for us. Twin B had a HR in the 50s until week 9? It's been so long I can't recall but A was high 160s. He also had basically no amniotic fluid until week 16 but he is currently smushing his brother shouting at him to get the stuffed bear away on the baby monitor right now so it can have a positive outcome! Seeing a heartbeat even if it's low is a good sign. I know how hard it is not to worry. I have been there in limbo but T&P to you!
Together 6 wonderful years.

Like pp said, 6 weeks is awfully early. I had a bleeding scare and went to the ER at 6 weeks 3 days.(before I had my first ultrasound) At the ER they gave me an ultrasound and told me that there were two sacs but only one had a heartbeat and was measuring 6 weeks 2 days. They told me the other didn't make it and stopped growing around 5 1/2 weeks. Imagine my surprise when I went to my RE for my first "real" ultrasound and both babies were measuring right on time with heartbeats. My RE doesn't give heartrates so I have no idea what they were but baby B didn't even have a heartbeat at 6 weeks 3 days so I wouldn't give up hope yet.
thanks again for everyone who replied! I had my second ultrasound today (at 7wk 3d), and the second baby was gone :-( I didn't have any bleeding, so they assume it was just absorbed. I'm really sad about it (kind of wish I didn't go in for that extra ultrasound a week ago, so then I wouldn't know and it wouldn't feel like such a loss), but glad that the first baby is still healthy (150 HR and measuring at 7wk 5d).
Super early cases of vanishing twin are very common, and it's nothing that you did wrong! It is almost always just related to a chromosome/gene abnormality that prevents functional fetal development, just like most singleton miscarriages are. Hang in there and take joy in the little one you are carrying
