Breastfeeding

rejecting bottle?

Hello! My husband and I had been taking shifts to sleep for 4 hrs and he was feeding the baby One bottle of pumped milk (I still woke up to pump for 15 min), baby is 4 weeks old and we started this last week after we found ourselves very exhausted. She had been doing great and all of a sudden last night she refused the bottle, so u got up and fed her. I am concerned that this will happen again tonight, these 4 hours of sleep help keep me sane and I really hope she doesn't reject it... does anyone have any tips?

Re: rejecting bottle?

  • Can you just have your husband bring her to you, feed her, then have him put her back down?  That seems about the same as pumping for 15 minutes.

We tried having my husband give a bottle and me pumping when my 2nd son was born, we did it one night then I realized I might as well just breastfeed if I'll have to pump anyway.

Maybe it was just a one time thing... If not, keep at it. You can also try switching up bottles/nipples. Also, some babies are really sensitive about the temperature of their milk and like it pretty warm. My LO had no problems taking the bottle then flipped out all of the sudden around 11 weeks. We're still working on trying to reintroduce the bottle but he'll take the milk from a soppy cup most of the time. GL!
  • maybe try switching the bottle or nipple. LO was doing really well with a bottle for 1 week and then absolutely refused it. she did better once we switched the nipple to a different one.

also you and your DH are awesome! i wish DH would feed her in the middle of the night but realize i would have to wake up anyway to pump so we didn't do that. also he sleeps like a log at night.
