February 2013 Moms

So there, DH!

When we left the hospital with DS I cleaned out the hospital drawers of the super pads, maternity panties, ice pack pads. We were told by our nurses that the hospital just takes out what we didn't use and restocks it fresh or the next mama for sanitary reasons, even if nothing is opened. Our insurance also gets charged for whatever is not used, because I guess there's a certain number of supplies designated in the billing process. So instead of getting charged for each individual thing, you get an overabundance in one package and insurance gets the bill for that kit. So even though my bleeding had pretty much stopped and I could use regular thin Always pads and my own panties when I left, I took them. Because. And DH thought I was a fool.

Well, well, well. I have this beautiful floor length white summer skirt that I have never worn because you can see through it fairly well, and I haven't found a pair of panties that quite work with it. If I go commando all my bizness is also visible. And no thank you on a slip in 90 degree weather. But then I remembered the starch white maternity panties I had stocked up. They work perfectly! My lady bits are covered and the undies are just the right shape where there are no lines and it just looks like the skirt is reinforced in that area. Take that, DH! Hoarder Dubs FTW.

Re: So there, DH!

  • After having to purchase supplies for two homebirths, I have so many leftover chux pads, hospital pads, maternity underwear and other miscellaneous stuff.  The last birth happened so quickly that I don't even think we opened the supply pack until they needed the cord clamp.  I figure at some point all of that stuff will come in handy!

  • They aren't mesh. They are a stretchy cottony material, and shaped like boy cut panties. They are crazy comfortable.lol Maybe I'll just wear them underneath capris and stuff, too.

  • I had both kinds - one was actual mesh, the other was a much closer weave but still just as stretchy and I dare say...all kinds of comfortable!

    You go Dubs!

We also got sent home with 'goodies'. I have two chux pads left, that I take when we travel. LO sleeps on the floor, so I put the two chux pads down, then 2 blankets to make a little 'bed' for LO. You never know when a diaper will randomly leak and I feel much 'safer' with the extra waterproof, absorbant layers on the nice white carpet of the two recent homes we've recently stayed at.
  • I actually have no idea what you gals are talking about when you reference the mesh ones because the only ones I saw/used at the hospital were the type I have on.

  • Mine were similar to yours, Dubs. But for some reason they didn't stock any extra in my room. I sent FI to go ask for some more, and this one stupid nurse was like "huh? We don't have those." I was just like, "I'm wearing them, and you gave them to me!" For some reason she always ended up being the nurse that was around when we needed to ask for something, and she always insisted that they didn't have what we were asking for....even though they clearly did.

  • Now I'm going to have to go look at what kind I had. I kept them as well, but I also wore them even at home for a week or so after. The pads the hospital gave me were 1-1.5"wide and 12" long. And they told me to just use 2 at a time, side by side, for extra protection. Ummm that never cut it and the giant overnight ones I bought made everything hurt more. So I just used those to keep my undergarments from getting ruined.

  • Mine were the ugly see-through mesh, but I'm so relieved that I saved them! I wanted to do the Depends route, but they made me break out so badly I couldn't. :(  This time I'm hoping to snag a few extra pairs! Saxy, aren't they?! They've been hiding in the back of my drawer since I got KU. I only pulled them out on AF days. But it's sure nice to have some crappy panties that can get ruined and not have to worry about my good ones!
