Lovenox tips?

I have to start lovenox injections today. I was in such shock that my ultrasound looked really good that I forgot to ask the Dr for advice on how to administer them. Do you have any suggestions to reduce the sting or something you've found to make the injections more "bearable"? Thank you!

I make sure that I grab a sufficient amount of fat (there's an abundance of that) from my stomach area away from my belly button, stick it in straight, & depress the plunger slowly. I find that the slower I do it the less of a chance for bruising. Sometimes even following that I will still get a bruise or these small, hard nodule things at the injection site. Apparently they're no big deal. The shots suck but at least I know I'm doing what I have to do for little one & for me. Good luck.

Wow! I wasn't prepared for how much that stuff burns!!! Going slowly was a great tip. Thank you! My love handles might be a better location to try next. I don't have that much fat on my stomach and the amount that is there is pretty much right around my belly button.

Oh holy hell it burns! I've learned that the closer to your side love handles, the less the pain. Also ice a little before.

I find having my husband doing the injections takes so much stress off me. I still bruise from time to time but I think I am getting used to most of the burning. I agree slow is better and love handles is the best spot. Back of the upper arms is my secondary location if my handles are getting too abused.

My sister started doing her injections in her thighs Halfway through her first pregnancy. She was mad at herself for not starting that earlier. (she was injecting in her stomach before that) she says it hurts way less in her thighs

I think I am the only one with the theory of 'the faster the better'! I do mine in my love handles as fast as I can and then hop into the shower. I find that takes my mind off of it and I don't seem to notice any bleeding. Nothing about these shots is fun, but I usually cheer a little when I find a good numb spot!

The thigh was much better than the stomach. It still burned, but it didn't last as long. The bruising was much worse, though. I'll take the bruise over the burn.

Nothing I do seems to alleviate the burn but I now do them lying down. I seem to bruise less than when I did them standing up. Also, look at the needle--position it so the "sharp" side is going straight in-- one side is dull.

I was told to avoid the legs. I do mine in the belly near navel. Faster the better. It does get tricky when the bump grows!

I feel that it hurts the worst in my thighs (maybe because there's not much meat). I prefer to do them in my love handles and by my naval. UGH I am so over these shots.

I agree with "the faster the better" method. The faster shot and the faster it's given, the less it hurts and burns, but the more it bruises. So pick your battle. My husband does mine also because I used freak myself out of doing it when I saw the flimsy needle and it was a long stressful ordeal everytime. It's funny to say this, but it gives us a special moment together this way and I am not as nervous about it. It works for us. But I still hate the stuff... but worth the trouble, isn't it...

So far, I've had 2 days of shots to the love handles and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. In fact, it's probably the best spot yet. If I really pinch the skin, it seems to take away the burn as well. my thighs are horribly bruised. I've also had a hard time avoiding a vein (thank my Irish skin for being so translucent!). I think I'll stick to the love handles for now.
