c-section mamas, how you doin?

Just wondering how the c-section mamas are overall.  Have any lingering effects from the surgery? Is there anything that feels different to you now?  Share!

DD will be 10 weeks tomorrow, so 10 weeks later and I occasionally have phantom pains at my scar area.  Not burning, but pressure-type pain.  Sometimes when my underwear lining sits too long on top of my scar it gets really tender in that area.  My bathroom experience still hasnt felt the same, its hard to explain, maybe someone else has the same experience and I can pin point better how to explain it!

  • 2nd c-section in 2 yrs. The only thing I notice is numbness. I didn't have this the first time. Overall the 2nd was way easier than the 1st, but neither were horrible.

14 weeks pp and it hurts when he puts his feet on my belly to stand up. Day to day no pain.

This along with some numbness/tingling in my big toes ( not sure it's related?) Also a little bloating at the end of most days. I'm 15w pp.
Overall feeling good, but not 100%

  • 8 weeks pp - feeling great and have been for weeks.
  • 6 weeks out, I still feel limited when doing physical activity. Like I notice how much more difficult it is to push a full grocery cart, and move a heavy laundry basket, etc. incision looks fine, feels a bit itchy or sunburny at times. Haven't had my pp appt yet, so no sex or exercise beyond walking with the stroller.

  • I'm 12 weeks pp and still have numbness and the occasional shooting/sharp pain at the incision. I had a very fast and easy recovery. I swear it sometime hurts more now than it did in the first 2 weeks pp. It's probably because I was so overwhelmed and consumed with having a new baby.
  • 14 weeks pp. No day to day pain but it's still tender if I press on it or LO kicks it. Looks kinda puffy still too. Occasional twinges if I sit up too fast

  • 10 weeks pp and feeling normal besides the numbness and slight tummy tenderness still. I also feel some burning in my vag area from soaps, sea water, sweat, etc. Anyone else? It's better than it was at the beginning though. I'm still too chicken to have sex but I'm thinking that should happen soon because I feel bad for DH :(

  • 12wks out... I can feel it time to time but no big pains. Still numbness around the incision. I started working out 6wks pp & have been doing a lot more the past 3wks (5 mile runs , spin, cycle, weight training) it sometimes bothers me then but I can push through it. I did hit a 50lb barbell right on the incision today & had to sit until the pain subsided

  • 8 weeks pp tomorrow. Just a little numbness and I was told that's likely permanent. Beyond that I've started working out and running and my abdominal strength is fine- like, I can do sit ups and planks. I wasn't some ripped ab fit lady prior so I don't know why I can but I'll take it.

The weirdest thing and... I hope this isn't TMI, but has anyone else experienced insane gastrointestinal issues? I used to be regular my entire life and even through pregnancy for the most part. Then I had the c-section and none of the dreaded constipation, pooped just fine the next morning and throughout my taking percocets which supposedly block you up. Once I stopped the percs, it's like someone has unleashed an unending and alarmingly explosive shit tsunami from my bowels. I have had to start planning my day/time out around being able to get to a bathroom, and while I get temporary relief, after a while the stomach pain comes back until I go again. I have no idea if this is hormones or if the surgery did something to irritate my gastrointestinal issues but I'm wondering if this is IBS or something else or maybe even something not related to my c-section.
  • Yes!!! Up until the last week or so, my bowels were a disaster, after the 2 month PP mark, things have calmed down and are back to normal.

  • Still the weird numbness & tingling around the incision site. I'm 10 weeks pp & feel pretty good. Those lower abs are still really weak, I really notice it when I start jogging, like they don't want to lift my legs up. I joined stroller strides 2 weeks ago for exercise & it has really helped getting the abs back in shape. 2 weeks ago I couldn't even figure out how to make the abs work to a sit-up & now I can bust em out pretty good! Still too chicken for sex, so not sure how that will be.
  • 10 weeks pp- I feel pretty much back to normal. Still have some numbness and can't do a plank yet without pain. It also hurts when LO kicks around my scar. I would have to say I'm about 95% back to normal. Tmi but sex still hurts. When does that get back to normal?

  • 9 weeks PP and I still feel muscle pain if I sleep on my belly too long. I suppose I do it to myself, but OMG have I missed it! I'm glad I'm not the only one having back pain at the site of my spinal--for me, it's like a wave of intense pressure will hit the site where I had the spinal done. Not cool.

It gets a little better every week, especially when I compare to how my body felt a couple weeks ago. But I still feel like I should be back to my normal self by now. Instead, I can't be on my feet too long and I'm still taking Motrin every once and awhile.

Whenever we think about wanting a second one, I think about the recovery and I seriously don't know of I can put my body through this again.
  • 10w pp and I feel really great! Recovery was really easy for me - by week three I felt great, and I can't remember the last time I felt the incision area hurt.  Like some of you, my only complaint has been gastrointestinal - holy hell do I have a constant flow of gas! It's seriously annoying/embarassing, but I think it's getting better.

Now to work on the stomach muscles so my back muscles stop giving me fits!

  • Numbness and itching.... Very out of shape! Lol slight uncomfortable when I cough hard or when LO presses on it.
  • 8w pp and feeling pretty good.  Once the infection got taken care of the incision healed up quite nicely.  Still itchy every now and then but nothing horrible.

  • This was our first child and I had to have a c section due to a previous surgery. I am 9w pp and my incision is still open n a little drainage. I had to have emergency surgery the day after my c section. I developed a hematoma and it was horrible. I am still swollen in my area so needless to say I am feeling better but I feel different. Two surgeries, new baby and nursing wow u can't imagine how I feel.
  • 7w and feeling great. No pain, and no noticeable numbness. A little sore when DS elbows me or DD stands on or kicks me, but nothing crazy. Did a 2 mile walk with both of the kids yesterday, and I feel good today. Hoping to keep up the exercising.
Recovery has been a million times easier this second time around.

Do you think recovery is easier on you this time since you did labor for 50 billion hours first?

  • 1st C-section and 9w pp. Feeling great. Started working out at 6w pp. If I plank too long or over work my abs I feel some pain after my workout around my incision. Sex feels like it did pre-pregnancy, just a little self conscious about my scar when in cowgirl but DH assures me that that's not what he's looking at during sex.
  • @PaperBowl‌ yes! I was having the same bowel issues! I had it with my first also. I never connected it to the surgery bc both times it didn't start until about 6 wks pp. I am 11 wks pp and it's just starting to get better. I assumed it was from the mass amount of coffee I had been consuming, but now that I know I'm not alone I'm thinking it must be the surgery.

  • Feeling good... have some back pain though.. not sure if its from epidural or what. Exercise has been going okay... but planks and anything core related is a JOKE!

  • Almost 10 weeks after my C-section, and I feel perfectly normal for the most part. When I stretch, I still have a lot of muscle weakness, but no pain. I'm frustrated with my BMs. I'm having the same problem I had after my first C-section - I get diarrhea cramps a few times a day (it strikes so abruptly, I have no warning), and when I go to the bathroom it's a trifecta of "normal", watery, and then pushing to no avail and feeling unsatisfied.

Oh, and I'm having my first period since July 5, 2013. It's weird, and totally unexpected because I'm EBF...
