GTKY: What Would You Miss If Pregnant?

All of our conversations about the 2WW and things to avoid inspired this post. What would you miss most if pregnant? Your answers don't necessarily have to be food- or medicine-related.

Re: GTKY: What Would You Miss If Pregnant?

  • I think I would miss the ability to drive without fear. I am short (5'1"), I can only imagine how awkward driving will become as I get larger and what happens if the airbag deploys!? It makes me nervous now. I would also miss blue cheese, Brie, goat cheese and wine.

  • Awesome question.  It's almost like a license to pre-whine! haha

In order of priority, high to low:

I'm definitely gonna miss the cawfee.  I love my hot drinks and herbal teas are a minefield, I've discovered.

I'm gonna miss the clearheadedness.  It doesn't take a lot of hormonal disruption for me to become clumsy and foggy-headed.  So I share a fear of driving while pregnant with @meredithcarole, though for different reasons.

And finally I'm going to miss strenuous outdoor adventures.  I'm by no means an athlete but enjoy the outdoors and would have to take care to avoid injury.

    What about you @URMySunshine77?
  • Sushi! Wine! and I miss ceroc (a form of partner dancing that's a blend between Latin and jive). I can't do it when I have morning sickness, and then there's a small window before me belly gets too big, and I get puffed too easily.

My first thought was wine and summer margaritas!
But more than that I think I will miss a good turkey sandwich, over easy eggs and my herbal tea (if doc yanks that) that I drink every morning like it's my religion.
    And the hot tub!

Rollercoasters and margaritas! (not recommended together) ;)
  • I would miss my body. I'm tiny like @meredithcarole, and I feel like preggo me would be a beach ball with little arms and legs sticking out.

I'd also miss martinis, raw oysters and medium rare steaks (I'm secretly from the 1960s). I don't intend on going cold turkey for things like cheese and caffeine, I don't think the science really supports it. I intend on eating healthfully, and if it's iffy just having a small taste. But we'll see if I change my mind if I get a BFP.
Me: 38 DH: 40 TTC#1 (and likely only) since 9/13. Saw RE 5/14, SA good, AMH 2.36, FSH 7.2, estradiol 69.6 indicating good egg reserve. Using OPKs. First Letrozole cycle 6/14, a burst cyst and a BFN. Second Letrozole cycle 7/14, BFN.

Update 11/14 - had laparoscopy 10/28, good news is that my uterus and left tube look good, and they were able to drain the cyst on my left ovary. Bad news is that right tube and ovary have endo and scar tissue, so they're pretty useless.. Best news is that we finally have some answers and a path forward. Taking 7.5 mg letrozole CD 2-6 to put that good left ovary through its paces.

UPDATE 2/2015 - We switched to another fertility clinic, but fortunately we don't have to start all over. We're doing two cycles of Clomid plus IUI, if neither of those take, we'll do IVF in April, potentially with ICSI. (DH's SA has gone downhill, likely due to excessive exercise.) IUI#1 2/25/15....
  • I'm surprised at reading some of these posts thinking "wait, I can't have sushi?" then it dawns on me. DOH!  "Wait, I can't have blue cheese?" Ugh.

I'm going to miss sleeping on my tummy.

  • I'd miss coffee, though i've practically given it up already, so maybe that's not totally fair. I would miss sushi, salmon, sandwiches, bacon...oh for the love of gawd, BACON!!!! And Sausage!!! And all things cured! I'd also miss wine for sure, and beer. But at the end of the day, the things i'd have to give up for a while would be sooooo worth that little bundle of awesome in my arms!! <3

Mostly wine, but also raw oysters and raw sushi as well as sports like skiing and scuba.

I am also a shorty (5ft on a good day) so I expect to look ridiculous.

I would miss not having to get up in the middle of the night to pee. That is so annoying. Like @MamaBear904, I'll definitely miss sleeping on my stomach. That's how I get to sleep at night.

I would also miss coffee because I give it up for the first trimester. I will probably drink a latte here or there starting in the second trimester.

Lastly, I would miss my over easy eggs!

  • I would miss: caffeine. energy (because of the 1st trimester fatigue, y'all!), not feeling like i'm going to puke all day long, being able to exercise without feeling dizzy and generally crappy, wine

I don't like sushi or seek out unpasteurized dairy, etc, anyway.

I did feel kind of anxious about hot baths (not anxious enough to keep them under 100 degrees, though.  Brr!)

What I won't miss while I'm pregnant: cleaning the litterbox.

But I bet the 2 of them together would be so much fun!! I'd just miss my alcohol, that's why I'm planning on drinking a lot from now until ET in August. Everything else I'd just eat in moderation if I wanted it. Then again I don't like seafood and I haven't had more than 1-2 caffeine drinks a day in years. I'm not sold on the turkey sandwich scare myself but I'd take a hot turkey sand with melted cheese over a cold one any day. I also thought the soft cheeses were only the unpasteurized ones and they don't sell them in the us. When did bacon become a part of this? By the time I ever get pregnant they are going to say pregnant women just need a feeding tube everything else is unsafe for some reason or another.
    You know it. ;)
  • @Pintobean39: When did bacon become a part of this?- Nitrates I'm guessing. But you can buy nitrate-free bacon. :)

  • ***previous pregnancy mentioned***

I thought I would miss coffee before I got pregnant with DD but after the first couple of days (I was cutting back to avoid the dreaded withdrawal headeache) I completely lost my taste for coffee. It wasn't even due to morning sickness, just didn't care for the taste. I really think the body has a lot of wisdom and will help you eat as you should.

I will miss feta cheese and being able to see my feet ;)

  • I will jump on the coffee bandwagon. I don't even know that it even gives me energy. I just like the taste. I'll switch to decaf when the time comes.

    I will also miss running!!

Comfortable sleep and not feeling exhausted.  I was sooooo tired last time I was pregnant but yet couldn't sleep. My husband will not be excited for me to reintroduce the giant body pillow that was like a third person in the bed if we are successful.
  • @kindershlitz - I LOVE the giant U-shaped body pillow! I will never give it up, even though making the bed is difficult. :)
