Trying to Get Pregnant

Great one more thing to worry about

I just read an article that if you tore in a previous delivery you are at risk for an incompetent cervix and may need a cerclage in subsequent pregnancies. Just wonderful as if my anxiety over even being able to conceive again wasn't enough. Article is on yahoo (sorry do t know how to link). I guess I need to get knocked up first before I can worry about this.

Re: Great one more thing to worry about

  • I'm an expert worrier, I get it. All I really got though is, sorry you saw the article, otherwise you wouldn't have even known to worry :(

  • Did it say anything about a shortening cervix in previous pregnancies? I was extremely close to needing a cerclage with my twins but was told its common with multiplies because of the excess weight coming on at at faster rate, so that meant 9 weeks of bed rest for me, I'm definitely worried about that again!

  • I'm honestly not understanding what tearing has to do with IC. That article is rather vague about the connection between the two and until more information is available (maybe through the AMA) I wouldn't freak out about it.

  • I think when they mention "any tearing" they must be referring to any cervical tearing.

They have to be.  This article reads like it is second-hand information written by someone with a very loose understanding of the topic.  It is not helpful or informative, it's simply trying to get views by using a scary headline to attract worried and vulnerable pregnant women.

  • Yeah, www.sheknows.com = not exactly a legitimate medical website.
Agreed. I jumped to a conclusion. Stupid internet!

  • I tore & was never told my cervix was at risk. Do you mean vaginal/perineal tears or damage to your cervix during labor?

  • The more I am looking at The Mayo Clinic resource the more it seems to say that cervical tearing, biopsy or trauma can place you at higher risk. I emailed my OB (she's awesome with this type of questions). The perineal tearing (I've had two 2nd degree tears to my external anatomy) don't have any effect on my cervix strength/behavior according to her.

I hope that makes you feel better. :)

I've been here since last April and you have started more threads than I have. Just an observation.

/> @themrsJRD‌ I'm sorry if my many posts have annoyed you. If I have a question or a comment I like to ask/share with others on the board. If you have a better way for me to post please advise as I am always open to comments/advice. I do support as well as comment/ start threads and if told I should support more I will do my best.

  • I'm sorry some of you ladies feel I post excessively. I do t have anyone IRL to talk to about TTC so I post on here when I need advice/ support. I never intended to make it all about myself and hope some of my posts have educated or helped the ladies on here. It seems I've been "yelled" at (for lack of better word) in the past week for not enough support/too many posts so perhaps I should go back to lurking for a while. Thanks for all of you that have commented. I think I will continue to provide support where I can but try to limit my bump time for a bit. Maybe I'm becoming too obsessed with TTC so a little break from here might be good. GL and hope to see you again soon.

  • I don't know how to edit the previous post but wanted to add: I've been feeling down and my DH is away on business so this was like an outlet for me. It's no excuse for the excess posts and I do take everything you ladies have said to heart. Again my sincere sorry and I do not mean any of this to be rude or snarky. Hopefully when I post again it will be better.

  • Dude, I think my last post sounded bitchy Nells.  I hate that my tone doesn't come through.

    Not bitchy at all, dude.
Btw, where the eff have you been?

OK, fhew! I've been getting my ass kicked by my insane (almost) 3 year old, eff potty training.  I've missed you!

  • I don't want to discourage you from posting, @lovemybellag, and I certainly wasn't yelling at you. I think it would be great if you participated in some of the weekly and random threads. The ones you have started all sound like you're borrowing trouble, as others said. I second @wickedsugar‌ in that finding an additional source of support may be really good for you.
