State's Attorney at Hearing?

In August BD and I will go back to court for the "support order to be determined" as a follow up to the DNA test this past week. I am thinking it would be wise to have a lawyer by my side in front of the judge. I just called legal aid and they were very surprised that no one form the SA's office was with me at the first court date last week and at the date in August. Did any of you go through the SA's office to establish support? Did you have your own lawyer or a SA lawyer?

It did seem strange that when I checked in no one spoke to me on behalf of the state. Good new is though legal aid said they do offer help for custody/visitation cases...not that I think he'll pursue it.

    I hired my own lawyer to handle my stuff. I'm now 7k deep and no where near being close to done (although this is for divorce and now restraining order).
    Take the legal aide for sure!

    Where I live you had to start with the Prosecutor's office to file for child support.  Since I filed that's changed and now I guess you start with the Friend of the Court.  During the transition, no one ever let me know what was going on so my case was in limbo for months with no activity.

    I talked with someone today and she said there was someone there they just didn't need to speak with me so the didn't. She said to ask to speak to the attorney next time and he'll answer any questions I have or I can call her back. She was really very helpful.

    That's good you found someone helpful. This can be very overwhelming and confusing.

    Wtf. I'm glad you found out bc I never heard of such a thing. I was going to say the only time I've heard SA's office getting involved is if someone is a felon or in jail or something. Wow. Here I just filed ppw with the family court and if he doesn't pay I go to child welfare services div of child support or something. I don't think SA gets involved.

    In IL the states attorney's office handles it.
