Agreed, but unfortunately I think locale plays a major role here. I had a frugal NY wedding, still almost came to $30K.

Yea...I had a backyard wedding and it cost over $20K

  • DD is nowhere near ready to transition from her bottle and I'm in no rush. She gets WCM in a bottle before her nap and at bedtime. Every reason I've read for why babies should be weaned from the bottle to a sippy doesn't apply to her (tooth decay from walking around with a bottle all day... Nope, speech delay due to walking around with a bottle all day... Nope, nutrition deficit from filling up on milk... Nope). ETA: thought I would clarify that my UO is I don't think it's a big deal if my kid isn't off her bottle by 12 or 15 months, despite the recommendation
I'm with you on this...we are still on the bottle and I have no plans to wean any time soon.  I just can't see taking it away before he is showing signs he is more ready.   He only gets the bottle at certain times of day...doesn't sleep with it, and loves to brush his teeth, so I think he is ok too.   One of my aunts was shocked to hear babies were supposed to be off the bottle before two.   Maybe late weaning was more the norm decades ago?   I figure I will try around 18 to 20 months.

  • So I am really not crazy about long hair on little/baby boys.   I can't rationalize this in anyway without sounding like a moron, but for some reason when I see a little toddler boy with long hair, I get the feeling that they are little rebels.  I think that is fine for a teenager but not so much for little ones.

Also the number of people you have to invite. It adds up fast! We had a decent size wedding in Boston, so it added up to a downpayment on a house very quickly.

I think engagement rings that cost as much as brand new cars are over the top and excessive.

To this day I don't know what DH paid for my ring. I never asked, he never said. He also got it insured before he gave it to me, so I don't know any of that info either......FFFC maybe.

Why do you think it's wrong?? Would you think it was wrong if it was a different religion doing it?

Agreed. Anything local was more than we wanted to spend. So we got married in Jamaica our wedding plus a week stay was just less then $6000. We were all paid and owed nothing before we even got married.

I think if the Mormon church is paying for a bunch of tickets or sponsoring the promotion, then it's NBD. I would find it weird (with any religion) for the baseball team to just decide to do a Mormon, Catholic, Baptist, Athiest promo day.
I shouldn't have said wrong, I should have said weird. Why are they promoting one religion over another? It's a baseball team!
  • ^ probably because as the PP suggested, the Mormon church are sponsoring it themselves.

Yes but wouldn't that give off a message as a business? If you have a Mormon promotion, wouldn't you, as a business, want to make sure it was well known it was put onby the Mormon church and not by the baseball league?
  • I don't know, maybe... It strikes me as a little weird too.

  • Looks like Mormonism and baseball must be a common combo. This one is clearly sponsored by the church.

  • My husband played for a team that had a Jewish Day. It was sponsored by a big Temple. One team every Sunday was Sundae, Runday, Nunday where nuns gave out ice cream and kids could run the bases. It's hard to not swear at bad calls when nuns are all around. Those was definitely weird. So was Civil War reenactment night where the South won. And a team in Texas had a few nights that were sponsored by a "militia" that patrolled the boarder and were recruiting. All I thought about Mormon Night was that it probably meant they didn't serve beer. Although I'm not a fan of a lot of these nights I know a lot of teams need the sponsors and fans.
  • Even though I like them and wear them, I think the flowy/tunic style shirts and dresses are unflattering. They add 10-15lbs to everyone.

I guess I just look at it as a way of bringing people out to a game. I've been to games sponsored by corporate organizations, religious organizations, and non-profit organizations. I never felt any pressure there.

I agree, I have noticed it is difficult lately to find more fitted styles, a lot of what is out there is more flowy,

I bank on these styles to hide my muffin top/mommy pooch.

  • I only judge expensive weddings/rings if it puts you in debt.

I have a good size ring and we had an expensive wedding but both were paid for upfront in cash.  And we already owned a home at that point.

My babe was off the bottle at 10 months, potty trained at 11 months, and can lift a 10 pound weight at 12 months. They will not be babies forever. What the $&@! Is going on here?
  • How has she not been kicked off TB yet?

My bad mom confession...I let my ODS have a bottle at night until he was 2. My pedi said she wouldn't worry about it and her kids took bottles until they were 2 as well. My baby is still loving his bottles.
