Fellow nurses, NCLEX questions! Not even close to BR, LOL

I'm nervously awaiting my authorization to test! I'm reading a Pearson NCLEX review book abd plan to do Saunders questions too. How else did you prepare for NCLEX? After scoring over 1100 on two HESI exit exams in my final semester I decided not to waste money on a NCLEX prep class, but I'm a little nervous about that choice! So give me your best preparation advice! :-D

  • I just did practice quiz after practice quiz and learned how to take the test. They ask questions a certain way and it helped me to be very familiar with the way they are worded. In practice I would work on being able to easily eliminate 2 answers. The questions are almost always multiple choice and could all be correct but they want you to pick ' the most correct'. I made sure to brush up on stuff I was rusty about like delegation of tasks etc.
Also, nausea and vomitting is a decent answer to most any drug question and the test may shut off after 75 questions, don't freak out.. Good luck

  • Lots of questions and stay calm the day of the test. It's not as bad as they say. I didn't even recognize a single drug on mine (they could have been made up for all I know) and I passed in the minimum number of questions.

  • Thank you! What NCLEX prep questions would ypu say are structured most like the exam? I worry about drug questions, there's just endless questions they could ask about so I feel overwhelmed by the pharmacology! I'm I pass in 75 questions! I'm pretty sure I won't be able to pump during the exam so the idea of being in there for 6 hours with boobs about to explode worries me!

  • I used the online lippincott 10000 question review. That is all I used and I only had three days to prepare. I passed with the minimum number of questions.
  • I tested in 2010 and I had several questions that were select all that apply. I was so surprised at how many I had. Make sure you practice those. Of course know your drug calc. Review areas you know you are weak in. Be confident in yourself. You got this!
  • Just lots of practice questions! I had 3 different NCLEX prep books. Also, try to relax the night before. Good luck.

  • Is there a Kaplan course near you? I know that's the reason I passed... I'm a horrible test taker. Loved their "decision tree", that really helped me. My instructor was awesome too. I passed at 75 questions!

Is there a NCLEX study guide in the PASS! book series? That's what I used for my CCRN, the practice tests were so helpful. Basically how j studied was practice test after practice test after practice. Highly recommend.

  • And remember that if the questions start getting insanely hard that means you are doing well! So take a second and don't freak out, take your best guess and move on.

I had a couple on the symptoms associated with various arrhythmias but they only gave my the ekg strip. I had no idea WTF they were asking about. I probably still couldn't answer those questions now after having my acls.

  • Lots of test questions!! I took mine in 09 but I hardly had any drugs but a ton of endocrine. And I didn't have any select all that apply but I've heard a lot of people saying those are becoming more and more.

Good luck and get a good nights rest night before and remember not to over study. I do believe you can burn yourself out then once you get in there, you just rush because you have studied too much.
  • I also did the Kaplan review. It was mandatory at my school.
  • You will have to let us know how you did!!! I don't know if they still do this, but I paid a little extra $$ to have my results 48 hours later or something, a lot faster than waiting for the results to post on the BON website!! Highly recommend doing that so you don't drive yourself insane with anticipation haha

  • I got my ATT last night! I'm signed up to test in just over 2 weeks! Feeling nervous but I'm pretty sure I will pass!

LOL at the stone and chisel! @Amjoy25‌ !

@jnsmith85‌, I will definitely let you guys know! I read all about the Pearson Vue trick as a way of finding out if you passed almost right away. Everything I have seen points to it's accurate so I am sure I will do that, then not trust it because it isn't official. I'm not sure if my BON participates in quick results. And Pearson already made a extra $50 off me when I had to change my BON a week after I registered because of a job offer out of the state I initially registered for, so I really don't want to give them more of my money. But I have no self control and probably will spend the $8 anyway, LOL.

My Saunders book is going to be my constant companion for the next 2 weeks! !

  • I don't know if it's different from state to state but I found out 24 hrs after taking and a lot of the new grads I'm working with now are finding out in like 24 hrs or less.

Good luck!! I'm sure you'll do fine!!
