Feeling movement when to worry?

I felt the baby for the first time last week at 16 and a few days, I felt the baby again much more distinctly yesterday afternoon(most wonderful feeling ever!), a couple of hours after this I was walking up three flights of stairs at work when someone ran into me and I fell on my side and bruised up my side pretty good, well I haven't felt anything since. I checked the heartbeat last night and it was slightly lower than normal around 138-144. Should I worry?

  • I would have called my doctor after any fall just to be on the safe side. But from what I understand feeling movement is so sporadic at this point.

  • My doctor told me it's normal to not be consistently feeling movement at this stage (20 weeks). But I would call for peace of mind!
  • I can't offer advice on feeling movement (FTM and I haven't felt anything certain yet), but just wanted to say that the heart rate fluctuates and that is still within the normal range. I don't think that indicates any problem. Call your doctor if it will make you feel better, though.

  • Too early for consistent movement. From 22-24w they only look for you to feel movement once per day. So since you're earlier than that there is really no expectation to feel movement, or requirement.

  • I'm 18 weeks and I haven't felt my baby at all. (That I know of, I feel like I have a lot of gas.) My doctor said that my placenta is in front so it "muffles" the baby moving?

With both pregnancies it wasn't uncommon for me to go a whole day around 16 weeks without feeling any movement but I second PPs: call and talk to your OBs nurse if you're really worried.  She'll tell you what you need or schedule an appointment if it's necessary.  You're probably fine, though.

This was me for #1 and between being pregnant with #2 and apparently not having a anterior placenta I feel so much more movement this time around.  Still, it's not unusual for me to go an entire day with nothing.

OP, if you're worried, call you doc.  I called all the time with #1.  They never made fun of me - to my face at least :)

  • I'm 20w4d today and baby is still very inconsistent in her movement which is totally normal.  I agree with everyone else though--f you're worried about the fall, I would call your OB for peace of mind.

  • Thanks ladies! I feel like I've called several times over worries(meaning twice, once for swelling in my legs and second for numbness in my hands). So I was really trying to avoid calling because I don't want to be that annoying paranoid lady, when I got home my MIL and DH we're pretty admit about calling, I was told not to worry but if I noticed severe cramps or bleeding to come in. So I'm thinking everything is fine :) I have a regular scheduled appointment tomorrow so we'll see!
  • For me it feels kind of like a rolling pin is in there? I know that probably makes no sense but that it what it feels like. That and reflexes that aren't controlled by your own body? Really strange but really amazing! I'm 19 weeks 4 days and only started to feel him a few days ago. It's not consistent by any means and my doctor said not to worry at all this early.
  • I'm 21w5d and still haven't felt Baby Cakes move yet. And he's actually measuring a full week larger than most babies at this point, so I'm pretty surprised I haven't felt anything! My OB said my placenta is hanging out between the baby and my stomach wall, muffling his kicks and punches. While I believe that, it's a little disconcerting not to have felt even a little something yet! Baby Cakes wouldn't move at all at my 19w ultrasound, so I'm scheduled for another one this coming Monday so they can finish taking his measurements. I'm wondering if he's too big for my uterus and just can't move (more like toward the end of pregnancy)??
