Laughing at my crying baby

One of my girls is totally freaked out by only one thing - sneezing. She doesn't even flinch at dog barking, door slamming or dropping a pot on the tile floor, but a sneeze totally sets her off. She gets startled, flings her arms out, flails around, contorts her face into the saddest expression any human can muster and begins to wail. Alligator tears and all. Seriously? All this over a sneeze? I find it so amusing. While laughing I do cuddle her and reassure her the sneezing boogey man will not get her; lest you think I just sit back and mock my terrified child. But it is so funny. Oh and this reaction is only for other people's sneezes. Her own sneezes (which happen about 20 times a day, always in sets of 3) are apparently not cause for alarm. What does your kid do that makes you laugh?

Re: Laughing at my crying baby

  • He sticks out his lower lip and quivers it sometimes when upset. It's such an almost cartoonish expression and is one I used to make as a child so I can't help but laugh at it!

  • My daughter does the same for coughs! Same idea, dog barking or rambunctious toddler don't faze her but if I cough, freak out time.

She loathes the sound of a pop/beer can opening! It scares the living crap out of her every time! My husband will crack a beer and her little arms go a flying, she does the lip quiver thing and starts sobbing. I can't help but giggle at her over reaction. So now we will go in the other room to open a beer so she doesn't hear it. A swear a shot gun could go off and it wouldn't phase her but that damn can gets her all riled up!

  • I totally hear ya on the "guh" cry. She is terrified of my hair dryer. Full on panic shriek eveytime.
  • Max over enunciates his cry sometimes and "wah" sounds like a 5 syllable cry. He is legit sad, but I find it too funny.

  • Oh man my LO is terrified of sneezes too. I try so hard not to laugh!

  • DH and I can't take kiddo seriously when he cries for a bottle (the one that's literally thirty seconds away from being in his mouth because we are mixing it up). He lays it on so thick, little dramatic dude! We have started recording him on our phones being so ridiculous.
  • The lip quiver gets me too. It's so pitiful and adroable. He doesn't find it nearly as funny as I do.

  • When she startles, her long skinny arms go straight out, wrists limp. The posture looks exactly like the spread-eagle claws on a lobster when it's picked up from behind out of the water. Gets me every time.

If you ask me what I came to do in this world, I, an artist, I will answer you:
I am here to live out loud!
  • When R gets really worked up when she's mad she cries and makes this drawn out goat noise before she takes a breath and starts over.
  • DS has started following his sneezes with an "ahhhrrr" relief sound & I'm loving it!
  • @danagmauro‌ That's so funny! The hair dryer is actually something that consistently calms my LO down! It works so well that we even have a white noise app with a hair dryer setting :) Babies! So weird!

  • Aiden does the pout face with his bottom lip stuck out as far as possible, and it makes me laugh every time. I need to try and get a photo of it some time, because it's so danged cute! The other thing that gets me is he has this pathetic little "wah" cry he does when he's tired. It's so halfhearted and weak!

  • When LO is upset or mad, he lets out little squeals and whines. He sounds like a kitten and it is difficult for me to not laugh. He looks.so pitiful!
  • Sometimes when we are relaxing with LO one of us will move her from our side to our chest for example to get more comfortable. She will let out this grunt like "Uuhhnn" as if she had to muster the strength to complete the move all on her own. She has done this from day one and it gets us every time!
  • My little monster makes this one big low pitched cry. Bottom lip goes out, and quivers a little. Makes me crack up..

  • When the paci ones in during a full on melt down he takes it and makes a sound like ugh ugh ugh ugh sounds like a baby seal. So frickin funny

  • If I take the bottle away mid feeding to burp her, she screeches this high pitch eeeeee noise. When I put the bottle back in her mouth, I get this dramatic sigh/grunt like Ugh!
  • Yup- sneezes freak out LO and especially when getting her diaper changed our while nursing.

My LO has always had the classic pouty lip/head thrown back cry, which is equal parts sad and adorable. She also has this high-pitched wolf pup cry/coo she makes when upset, like "Ah-oooo!!" Throw that into the mix of the above combo, and I'm completely laughing at my helpless child.

Here she is, winding up a cry. Tummy time was not on her agenda of "fun activities..."
  • D will be in the middle of a meltdown and suddenly his cry sounds like he is yelling in a falsetto, "ahh-ooooooo". it is the funniest thing i've heard outta him. even tho he is crying and i'm trying to calm him down, i'm laughing hard at that point

  • LOVE when he sticks his bottom lip out - I can't take him seriously. DS also grunts like a pig when he's worked up!! He's done this since he was born. Babies are too funny!
