Color and Babies

So, just wondering how much stock you mamas put into this. I know that certain parts I completely agree with, and others I'm not so sure.
How do you feel color effects babies mood, or personality.
Examples: green=focus, blue= calm, red/orange= fussy/loud
I do know louder colors can disrupt/distract baby as they do you must adults. I read somewhere( can't find the article) that if you have trouble breastfeeding, trying it in a green room can help because it causes baby and mama to concentrate.
We are painting our nursery navy blue and cream.
Just wondering if any STMs have experience with babies not liking a certain color?

Re: Color and Babies

  • When I went to see an LC, all the little rooms were painted a light green.

So far, DD seems to be really attracted to red. I don't think there's a colour that she doesn't like though.

  • I've heard that blue is calming and that offices/workspaces *should* be painted blue. I've also heard that yellow is a jarring color that makes babies cry. :/ I have no idea whether or not that's true!

I do know that babies are not born being able to see all colors. They start out at almost a gray scale, and the first color they can see well is orange. Babies like contrast, so bold geometric patterns are supposed to be good for vision development.

  • Well my room is a dark green (think camo), and my bed is cream fabric. When the light is shining through it is so peaceful. It's just awful with artificial lighting [-(
