Meat glaze - when to put it on??

I usually buy teriyaki marinade for chicken but bought glaze by mistake. I put it on when the ckicken is almost done, right? How many minutes before it's done do I brush it on?

Right at the end, if it's sugar based. Otherwise it will burn.
