My cousin posted a link about a father leaving his kid in the hot car while he went to work. I calmly said that unfortunately this is not new so it is a good idea to put your wallet or phone in the backseat. Especially if it is not in your routine to drop the kid off.
I do this even though I do not believe I could ever forget my child.
Now I am a bad parent, because my phone and wallet is more important then my kid.
Lovely.
Re: Eeeerrr (Trigger Warning: Child death mentioned)
But a former coworker over heard it one time and immediately started shooting her mouth on how ridiculous that was, and that no "good" parent would *ever* forget their kid. She didn't have kids at the time. Skip ahead a couple of years and guess which one left her toddler in the car? LUCKILY, nothing bad happened. Her boyfriend was inside when she got home and asked where the kid was after a couple of minutes. She came back the next day and told us what had happened and another coworker reminded her off her snotty response a few years prior.
The hotter it gets outside the more paranoid I get about it. I've shared this fear with DH, and I've told him about the stories where schedules change and children get forgotten. I think talking about it with him helps.

We have had quite a few instances where children an infants were left in vehicles. Fortunately, with raised awareness, the fatality rate has dropped off in recent years
