Did you (or do you) suffer from urinary incontinence?

Not an awesome subject, but I figure an anonymous clicky poll might generate more answers than if we have to fess up personally ;-)

If you, for example, had some issues with incontinence pregnancy and immediately postpartum, please vote for the "longer" option of briefly post-partum etc. - and feel free to go into more details in the comments if you feel up to sharing!

Re: Did you (or do you) suffer from urinary incontinence?

  • For me, I didn't have issues during pregnancy, but immediately postpartum it was pretty bad.  I genuinely peed myself a couple times on maternity leave.  After that things got better, and from about 6 weeks on it was only under times when I put my bladder under stress I guess ... running/sneezing/coughing a lot.

I was very happy to realize when I went out running the other day that I've finally quit worrying about peeing myself while I'm out!  I hope I haven't jinxed myself, but I've been in the clear for a little bit now.  I still get nervous when I have strong coughing fits, but hopefully I can put this unfun chapter behind me (at least until LO#2!).

  • Just at the end of my pregnancy. But I had a c-section.

  • ^^ @majwv8 - I did the same thing in the hospital.  Fortunately only DH was in the room ;-)

  • @42Butterflies - if you don't mind me being nosey - did you have issues after DS?  Or did you have a harder pushing experience with DD or something along those lines?

I'm curious how things might go with #2 down the road given the issues I had this time ...

  • I never had issues after having ds1 but now I will have a little urine come out if I'm holding it too long or sneeze.

  • Still having problems.  Right after I had DD, if I waited too long to go, I would usually wind up wetting myself the minute I walked into the bathroom...and could do nothing to stop it.  I have to cross my legs when I cough or sneeze and that doesn't always work.  I had a really bad cough a few months ago and had to wear a pad until it got better.  I plan to talk to my OB about it at my next appointment.

  • I only peed myself once when I was pregnant with Grayson. I had just gotten up and hadn't peed yet and I sneezed. Alex still gives me crap about it lol

  • I haven't ever peed myself, but I use the bathroom way more frequently now than I did before I was pregnant.

  • I didn't have issues after DS1 (c-section) but I had issues for several weeks after DS2 (VBAC). I had the lovely "pee fall out" right before I would try and sit on the toilet for about 2 months after. I regularly soaked a pad while running until about 6 months. Fortunately all of the issues have stopped aside from the occasional tiny leak with a hard cough on a run or something like that. I attribute it to getting back in shape and kegels. I have friends who pee themselves on the regular years after their deliveries so I feel lucky!
