Question for Vegetarians

My husband and I are vegetarian but are undecided about what to do with our son.

Are you going to raise your child vegetarian?

I just don't know if I have the energy to research and make sure he gets all the nutrients he needs.

P.S. we are vegetarian for ethical reasons so we would try to buy ethical meat if we can afford it.

Re: Question for Vegetarians

  • Not a vegetarian here, but know several people who are who have had kids. Nearly all of them gave their babies and young kids meat since it is so nutritionally dense and was, like you said, easier then researching to make sure they got properly balanced protein intake. Once they were older and could eat a wider variety of things, some of them phased out the meat.

  • Good thoughts so far. We also don't want them to be screwed for school lunches or going to a friend's house.

As much as I would love to raise our kids vegetarian I just don't think it's going to happen.

We're not vegetarian and aren't raising our kids vegetarian but my 2.5 year old rarely eats meat. We offer it to him probably once a day and he's just not a fan. He MIGHT eat a max of 3 bites of chicken a day (on a good day) to give you an idea. He gets his protein from milk, dairy, and nuts. His pedi has no problem with that. Just wanted to throw that out there.

ETA: And eggs too. He loves scrambled eggs.
