Saw this on another board and thought it was a cool topic.
What traits, physical and not, would you like your child to get from you and your significant other? What would you not want them to have?
I'd love my kids to have my ear for music and foreign languages. MH sucks at both. I speak several languages and used to sing in an operatic choir. K was an early speaker so maybe that's a sign? She also seems to have a really good sense of rhythm, but it's too early to tell if she will be a singer...
On the other hand, I can already see that she is as fearless and sociable as her Daddy. I am an introvert and she has no problem walking up to strangers at the playground and pulling them into play. I constantly have to keep overcoming my shyness. I love that about her personality,
I hope ds and new peanut get my husbands laid back personality . I hope they don't get my Irish/Scottish temper. Lol I hope they get his ability for language he speaks 4! From me I hope they get the love of learning and reading...and love of nature and animals...
This is a bit superficial but I was hoping LO would have my green eyes since they're rare, but genetically he will have blue eyes. I hope he gets DHs height and my athletic abilities. I hope he has DHs patience and my drive and ambition.
My daughter picked up a few of DH's better qualities... (His metabolism and body type. His linguistic ability. he speaks 5 languages and 25 dialects. Our daughter picks languages up quickly, too. After a couple of months of Mandarin classes she said "This is so easy!" and would chat happily to Chinese friends... French, Spanish and Arabic have followed just as well.)
Fortunately, she got my eyebrows... I hope she gets my writing skills. She also got my flexibility and ability to dance. (DH is the worst dancer ever.) She also has my travel bug.
We both have good hair and skin, and so far she has both traits. For her sake, I hope her teen years are acne free as ours were.
Beyond us? I am so glad she is her own person, too. She LOVES getting out there and meeting new people. DH and I more introverted. Also? DH and I have teeth that require a lot of frigging dental work. DD's are perfect. (Lucky kid.)
As for this new baby? I really, really hope he or she gets DH's body type and metabolism like DD did. It is no fun looking at a piece of bread and gaining 5 lbs like I do.
Really hope he/she does not get depression like me. Would love if they got to be easy going like DH. My mom's ears and nose would be good (they're so tiny and cute). My morals and his hair. Wait, I think that would make Clark Kent aka Superman!
I hope one of my kids has DHs blue eyes and his thick lips. My eyes are brown and have thin lips. I always wished my eyes had been blue. We thought DDs would be blue, but they had darkened to a light brown by 18 months. DD is refered to as a mini me, so I hope this one's features favor DH. She is a good mix of us both, but I think the more dominant facial features you notice are mine (eyes, nose, head shape). Non genetic traits would be DHs problem solving skills. I am such a linear thinker and he can see more than one way and find simpler solutions.
Physical: - Both DH and I are tall, so this kid will likely be tall as well. I am happy about that.
- I hope he gets DH's nearly perfect eyesight (mine is terrible) - I am secretly hoping he gets my blond hair - at least while small (DH had blond hair as a kid as well, so he might)
Personality: - I want him to get DH's sense of humor, with just a touch of mine (my sense of humor is very dry) - I hope he gets my curiosity - We both have a love of learning, so I hope that's passed on as well.
I always say I want my girls to have my long eyelashes (which they do, except DD1 has straight not curly eyelashes like her sisters and I)
I want them to want to go to college (like we both did)
I want them to have my DH work ethic. He is the hardest working person I know and he does it with a smile. I really love that about him.
I want them to be able to enjoy a drink without letting alcohol be a crutch that they need to unwind with everyday. (I come from a long line of functioning alcoholics)
I want them to always see the joy and beauty of being alive! And know how hard I worked to have them be born and how much we wanted them!!
There's so much more but I better get back to work!!!
DH work ethic, both of our musical talent, DH's build, DH's curly hair, my blue eyes, DH smile with my teeth (I think is what him and I decided, lol), our wit.
Not-wants:
My build, my vitiligo, my Dad's male-pattern baldness, and my Dad's family's crap health history.
Hmmm - never noticed there were a lot of things I don't want him to get from me.
I hope my child inherits his dad's height and quick wit, but not his bad knees or impatience. I also hope he gets my compassion and nose, but not my diabetes or moodiness.
I used donor eggs so these babies won't get anything from me. I just hope they are healthy and happy . The rest simply doesn't matter.

My teeth, never had braces :-), DH pretty eyes (blue or green) sorry bout that metabolism, kiddo, you might beat it early on... but your folks are fluffy :-) I hope lo has my ear, for singing and language- and my joie de vivre! Hubby gets kind of panicky in potential limelight situations, or if he might have to dance...
I hope this baby has hair just like my daughter. I have extremely curly hair and she got curls, but not anything like mine - they are gorgeous!
I hope this baby has my eyes, hazel. Would be great for baby to get my husband's sense of humor, and MOST of his personality traits.
I DO NOT want baby AND our daughter to inherit addiction problems that have plagued my husband's family. That scares me and I am still figuring out how to start that conversation when the time is right. (Obviously many years down the road)
Everyone says our DD looks just like me with the exception of her nose which she gets from DH. What's funny is I always told DH I wanted our kids to have his nose because I think it is cuter than mine. I'm completely excited to see what this next baby will look like (and hope she/he has DH's nose as well).
In terms of personality, DD inherited my lack of patience, but my wit, and DH's desire to learn and help others. With the exception of the lack of patience, I hope the same traits are strong with this next one.
