Go ahead...call me an idiot.

So I am at the beach, and even though I wore sunscreen (and reapplied) but somehow ended up with a pretty wicked sunburn on my legs from just below the knee to about mid-shin. It is really really painful!! Apparently the only remedies I can use are aloe and Tylenol :((
I guess what I didn't realize was that Prego skin is very sensitive and a sunburn is worse that it would be otherwise.
So go ahead....tell me I'm a damn moron!! But if u have any Prego safe home remedies for the sunburn pain and discomfort that you can share alongg with it I would be one grateful Prego lobster!!!
Thanks!

  • Buy some powered milk and either put it in a bath or make a paste and let it sit on you, or rub tea bags on it, make sure you moisturize you skin too!

  • I know Desitin or diaper rash cream works for regular burns. It might help with sun burn.

  • I have used Noxzema, it pulls the heat out. Apply it but don't rub it in.

That really sucks! Run a cool bath and add a few tablespoons of baking soda and a cup of rolled oats - that's helped me in the past. And make sure you stay hydrated!

Awww, not an idiot unless you purposefully burned yourself. :(  Aloe vera works awesome and so do black tea bags steeped extra heavily (like someone else said above). The cheap ones like lipton work too!

  • Awww, you're not an idiot! I've been pregnant for the past four summers, and I've gotten some wicked burns each one. Its not fair that we apply sunblock like its going out of style and it doesn't seem to matter :(

Make sure to wear a hat when outside if possible, I got some terrible sun spots during my last pregnancy, despite sunblock.

  • Cut a lemon in half and squeeze the fresh juice on the sunburn and rub it in with the open face of the lemon. I'm really white and burn really easily and that works for me every time. I haven't peeled since I moved to florida.
  • Soak a soft rag or paper towel in white vinager and set it on the burnt areas. This works for me even when I blister. It might not get rid of it faster but it soothes it like no tomorrow. I'm so sorry. Sunburn is the suckiest thing ever. I hope you feel better soon!!

Oh no! That really sucks! At least you did your best to prevent it. I feel like OBs should really warn pregnant woman about this.
  • I third or fourth coconut oil... It's my new miracle.  Plus, it makes you smell like a poolside cocktail.  And who doesn't want that.

  • Real aloe (not the crappy gel from the drugstore, the stuff from a health food store) is AMAZING on a burn. Keep it in the fridge and it feels really soothing going on as well.

  • I got one a couple of weeks ago in the middle of my back, ouch! Coconut oil + lavender EO and drink a ton of water.

  • Freeze the aloe in an ice cube tray.....then rub rub run, don't scratch !
  • Thanks to everyone for the sympathy and suggestions! I will try some of them. @Eora3‌ I agree! Our OBs should throw us first time moms a bone and give us a heads up just how sensitive our Prego skin is! I called my doc to see what was safe to use and got yelled at for being irresponsible!

Aww I'm sorry this happened to you!  I don't have much advice on the sunburn other than what PP have already suggested, but I wanted to say that since I've been pregnant I've used baby sunblock (mineral-based formula), and it is ultra-protective.  I burn up like a lobster too, so I feel your pain!  This was called Baby Block, but there are tons of different kinds of baby sunblock and supposedly it's good for pregnant women, because the mineral-based formula stays on your skin and does not absorb into the skin like adult sunblocks.  Hope your burn clears up soon (maybe you'll even get a nice tan!)

  • Soak some rags/towels in apple cider vinegar and place on burned areas. You'll smell like salad dressing but it helps!

The person at the office yelled at you? Really, like you went out with the intention of getting burned to then have to ask them for advise after.. *smh* that's crazy how were you supposed to know.

  • No home remedy here but this stuff will take care of your sun burn in no time!!! I swear it is the bees knees. It is not aloe Vera but some type of spray that does wonders for damaged skin!! I promise you will not regret it if you purchase it! Also I think they sell it at store at the beach, my MIL bought it for me a couple years ago because she swore by it and man was she right. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CQ7XQY2/ref=cm_sw_r_udp_awd_3IROtb02PCJBX

So no one but me, sitting up here in chilly Canada, is hating her a little for the beach and sunshine?

Sorry about the sunburn, I have nothing new to add but jealousy.

  • Calendula lotion is awesome for sunburns! Aloe doesn't work for me at all, doesn't really help but this stuff works wonders. I bought mine at whole foods, but any think any natural food store should have it. I've been super sun sensitive too, good luck!
  • You can try peeled potatoes... Place them all over your skin and air still for a bit. Feel better!
  • @LaxMOM44‌ ...I get that! We had a Long winter here near DC and I was hating on anyone who escaped the cold weather for a sunny beach vacation! Is it cold where you are year round? Or has it just not warmed up yet? Sending warm thoughts.
Thanks again to everyone for suggestions and help! I am starting to feel better. The tea bags and aloe helped a lot! Stay safe everyone.

Just hasn't warmed up yet. We had a few warm days but those are a distant memory now.

  • I had no idea! Still catching up with all the pregnancy details, thank you for posting, it's great to know to watch out for sensitive skin!

I have noticed that I burn more quickly, but I've also noticed that the burn turns to a tan quicker as well and isn't peeling. Lotion up!
  • How are you feeling? Any better? Did you find any of these helped?
