C-section moms

I asked about this a few months ago also, but my problem is that my incision is still not completely healed, nearly 4 months after. I have gone to my OB twice and have called a few times. I keep hearing that it's normal, and that it takes some people longer to heal than others, but I just don't think it is. I know I should trust my doctor, but I just can't shake the feeling that after 4 months I should be healed. It still bleeds a bit now and then, and it's still scabbed over, and it hurts in that area. I have another appointment next week because I insisted they look at it again, since it's been a month and a half since my last appointment. The first visit, I did get a round of antibiotics "just in case" there was an infection. Anyway, I'm just wondering is anyone else dealing with this?

Re: C-section moms

  • I would definitely be bugging them. If you feel brushed off again, I would get a second opinion. I feel like any surgical incision not healed by now would be a concern. Hope you get some answers!

  • Yea. I second getting the second opinion. My scar is just a faint pink line at this point- still bleeding seems ridiculous to me. Was your OB good otherwise? Was it a planned or emergency c-section? Maybe that has some bearing on it?

  • You need a second opinion. That doesn't sound okay.

Thanks for the responses, ladies. They couldn't get me in until next week, but I'm going to go ahead and try and make an appointment with another office. It just sucks that I still don't feel normal. I work on my feet so at the end of my shift I'm seriously HURTING. You can forget about exercise. Thanks for all the advice and I'll keep y'all posted. Hopefully they can get me in ASAP.

My OB was great, but he didn't do the surgery. It was the on-call doctor. And it was an emergency csection, I spiked a fever after 21 hours of labor. I doubt that makes a difference though. I did ask a nurse about it while my sister was having a baby last month, and she asked if I was diabetic because that could be what was delaying healing. I did have GD, and when I brought that up, he said that's not it, that it was GD only, but I'm also going to push for another test on that as well to rule that out as a possibility.

Good luck! Keep us up to date!

  • I hope another clinic can get you in sooner! Good luck!

Out of curiosity, did they ever give you antibiotics? My ob prescribed me some as a precaution since my c was done in less than 10 minutes. Do you feel like your incision may be infected?

Thank you! I went in for my first visit for this problem about 1 month pp. I got the all looks good, normal talk, but when he pressed high up on my belly above my incision, I told him it hurt there. He then said "well I'll prescribe antibiotics just in case there is an infection" but said he didn't think so. So I took those then. It doesn't look infected on the outside, just not healed. But, who knows?!

  • I feel like my incision definitely stopped bleeding by the second month pp, maybe even earlier.  I have a scar but there is no scab or thought of broken skin.  I think it's right for you to be concerned and I'd go to a different doc.  At very least, they should be telling you something to put on it to help it heal.
