NBR, but need to ramble

My brother and his wife are foster parents trying to adopt the two sisters they have been taking care of for almost a year (an almost one year old and a two and a half year old). Their mom totally wrote them off and those poor girls have been through terrible things. My brother and SIL are the first real parents either one has had.

This month has been a nightmare for them! The mom decided she wants custody after all, and went to the courts. The girls have been doing visitation with her and it's been terrible for them. Last month the baby was sick and spent one night in the hospital. Two days ago an ear infection in the older girl turned to pneumonia and she is still in the hospital now. To top it all off my brother was layed off from his job yesterday, with no warning or cause, and SIL doesn't work so now they are without income, one girl in the hospital, and a court date for the girls next week that they are already worried sick about which way things will go. My heart is breaking for them and there's nothing I can do to help.

Any positive thoughts directed their way is appreciated. Also any ideas of what I could do for them? I can't visit because of the pneumonia, and I don't have a lot of money right now, but I want to do something. It's all so overwhelming

  • T&P's to your brother, SIL, and those poor girls. That's a terrible situation to be in. They will catch a break soon enough though. The rain can't last forever. I would just let them know your thinking about them since you can't go see them. If your close, you could make a dinner (easy casserole) and drop it off to them. A card, edible arrangement, or flowers are a nice gesture, but I don't think it's really necessary.

  • Oh my goodness - yes, positive thoughts and prayers to them! I agree with what pp said, if you're close, taking them dinner would be a way to help. Maybe you could offer to watch the one sister while they're with the one in the hospital.
