dizziness

I'm 25+2 and have been having bad dizzy spells the past few days.  I have an appt in the morning with my dr but I'm just curious if anyone else had this problem? I'm hoping its not high blood pressure already.  The only common factors in the dizzy spells are being hot and they are happening around meal times.  I read this is a common pregnancy problem around this time but they seemed to start up out of nowhere.  Any experience?  Thanks

Re: dizziness

  • Yes! This was happening to me a lot. I was worried I was anemic but all tests were fine. It can be incredibly common. My doctor was not worried because there was nothing she could fine to blame it on. She actually said it's most likely low blood pressure. Drink tons of water and don't skip meals. And she reminded me to get up slowly if I've been sitting a while. Hopefully your doc can rule anything out and it's just a normal side effect.

    This.
  • Make sure you're eating small meals/snacks every 2 hours or so. This really helps me with the dizziness. When i start to get dizzy, I usually realize that I haven't eaten enough

  • I get dizzy if I wait to long to eat. My ob nurse says it could be low blood sugar. Just try to eat snacks in between meals and lots of fluid.

I deal with dizziness and syncope on a daily basis when not pregnant and then was told It is quite common in pregnancy actually. It could be a drop in blood pressure. If your pressure is indeed found to be low you can try crossing your legs and squeezing really tight. This often raises by a few numbers---enough to prevent dizziness. Also be sure to stay really hydrated. You can try the electrolyte enhanced water. I usually use this and then add a small splash of G2.

If it is happening close to meal times (before meals) it could be a drop in blood sugar. You can try eating 5-6 small meals throughout the day rather than the three traditional ones. If it is after you eat, it is quite common for bp to drop after you eat as blood rushes to stomach area to help with digestion. This Bp drop could cause dizziness.

Good luck a d hope it subsides. I know from experience it is not fun.

  • I had this early on, my blood pressure would drop dramatically but then i would be totally fine. I just made sure to hydrate and eat a bigger, more balanced breakfast (as it usually happened to me in the mornings). Also just make sure that you can always sit down somewhere if it hits. Even on the ground.

  • I get faint and hot if I eat too much sugar, due to the sudden spike in blood sugar. I struggled with it last pregnancy also.

  • I'm just about a week behind you and I also JUST started getting dizzy from time to time. I saw the Dr last week and all of my numbers were perfect, but I called my mom who is a nurse to sort of bounce it off her because I was slightly worried.  Then I realized that I hadn't had a snack for about 3 hours.. so I had a banana and drank a glass of milk... I started to feel better shortly after. My bets are you probably just aren't getting enough of something.  So I too have to echo pp's by suggesting more snacks and more fluids.
