December 2014 Moms

Join me, over-acheivers!

We have a name picked out, I have bought everything we need, except 3 items on my Amazon list that my MIL is buying (including our cloth diapers, she insists)
I started cleaning out the nursery and bought paint and supplies yesterday.
I can't help myself!

With my son, my last trimester was really hard, and I literally spent the day I went into labor finishing things up, including installing a ceiling fan on top of a tall ladder.
I told my husband I REFUSE to do anything baby related in the 3rd trimester this time. I am too old for that shit!

Who else is with me?

Re: Join me, over-acheivers!

  • Nice! I think once we get a little further along, we'll start to get things together. We have nothing. Not one thing! I'm still a little nervous to start buying things. Not sure that will ever go away, so I could probably just buy a freaking onsie, but even that makes me nervous!

My mother works at a thrift store, and I prefer to reuse things, so when she brought me 2 30 gallon bags of clothing Sunday, I was delighted! He is officially clothed until 6 months, except whatever I buy for bring home.
  • I am waiting to find out the sex before I do too much. Hopefully in another month I will be able to say I've done all these things.

I bought a single baby outfit that was gender neutral. Other than that we are waiting to see if it's a boy or girl.

My major (and boy do I  mean major) goal of the day is to completely empty my hoarder style basement. The woman who viewed our house Monday is coming for a second showing with another person on Friday, and she wants to see more of the basement. It is stuffed full of crap. Clothes, car parts (thank you H) tools, holiday stuff and furniture. Everything must go.

  • Impressive @kayhold!

We have actually done quite a bit to get the baby's nursery ready, but only because it's also our guest room and we had guests last weekend. I didn't want them to be in a room that looked like it was being used for storage. Of course the baby will sleep in his/her bassinet in our room for the first few months and I feel like I have everything I need from my first kid, so there's no rush. My husband thinks I'm crazy for making him build the baby's crib already, but that third trimester is tough and I refuse to stress this time around.
  • I'm pretty much the opposite. I haven't done a single damn thing for this poor child. But then again, I haven't even made it out of the first trimester yet.

  • We haven't bought really anything yet but we've looked at stuff and last night we talked over dinner about what kind of high chair, carrier, PNP, etc. that we want to get. The nursery is currently the room where we store our extra furniture so we'll have to clean that out and set up the crib, then decide if we want to buy the dresser that matches the other nursery furniture. I think we'll start our registry this weekend since my work peeps have already told me they are having a shower for me. We've been kinda slackers though.

  • We were having the carpets replaced in our bedrooms a few weeks ago, so we went ahead and replaced the trim, painted the ceiling, put another coat of paint on the walls, and have kept the room emptied out. However, if the carpets weren't being replaced, there's no way we would have all that done already. It was just because it seemed stupid to do all that on fresh carpet!

I'm with you! I started cleaning out my closet this weekend so my goal is to have that done within the next two weeks. Since we'll be sharing our bedroom, my wardrobe will be used to house all of the baby's items and I'll be moving my clothes into my husband's closet (he's got twice as many clothes and shoes as I do).

That will give us just enough time to hit the container store and home depot for storage bins over 4th of July weekend. After that, we plan on tackling one closet per weekend (6 in total) to make sure everything is well organized and can accommodate any other baby items. My goal is to have it all done by Labor Day weekend so we can move on to decorating and setting up the nursery section.

  • I'm not there yet, but after we move next week and get settled, I hope to get the ball rolling. I would love to be ready by the end of 2nd tri. I spent most of my 3rd tri on bed rest last time, so I don't want to be in that situation again. Cloth diaper stash is almost built, we have names picked out, gender neutral clothes are being procured as I see them, crib mattress is taken care of... making progress!

We're switching rooms in the apt so we haven't started with much. My SO and both our parents are all waiting to find out the sex to be able to begin buying things and I'm waiting for that in order to start the registry. I have a few more weeks until an a/s so so far I've just been doing a lot of research on stuff I'd like to buy or register for.

  • Good for you guys! With my first, I delivered 5  weeks early.  While I was still in the hospital my husband and my entire family was at my house finishing up the nursery. Not fun, I promised myself that this time will be different, but my husband and I both work very seasonal jobs and are 60-70 hours a week working this time of year, so we are probably going to be in the same boat.  I just hope this baby is a little more patient and grows on the inside longer that big sister!

  • Holy crap! I tend to be an over-achiever with most things, but I haven't done a single thing for this baby yet. I'm sure I'll jump the gun a bit when we find out the sex, but nada at this point.

Although I did just buy a super cute onesie from Baby Gap yesterday, here. We call this baby peanut. :)

  • Trying to sell our house so hopefully will be moving soon so I have nothing. As if buying and selling houses wasn't stressful enough now I feel behind!
  • The only thing I have to do is wash everything once we find out what the sex is. I feel way more prepared with this one and I'm barely in the second tri! I've already started cleaning out DD's closet so we can fit the new baby's stuff in there.

  • I just secured a friends crib, so that's off my list now, too, haha.

I am going to have to sand prime and paint a dressed I have, so that is going to easily take a month for me, since I can only do it after my daycare kids are gone. When school starts back up, I will have another baby in the house, so I really gotta get most of it done before August.
  • We have our wedding in 3 days then it'll be time to figure out what we're doing baby-wise. We live in a 3 bedroom and rent out the 3rd room to offset rent. Our tenants are awesome and have been here a year, but we won't want strangers coming in with a baby... We have to figure out where and when we're moving before we can plan a nursery. Ugh.

Why just plan a wedding when you can plan a baby AND a wedding?
  • Our nursery used to be DD's playroom. She is 7 1/2 yrs & is getting a bedroom makeover this week (courtesy of grandpa). So, playroom got moved to basement, DD's old furniture is being moved to empty nursery, & her room will get repainted/new furniture soon. A whole lot of cleaning & moving going on, but I'm excited to give DD something fun/new with baby coming. As for nursery, that is just going to have to wait...plus, still waiting to find out boy or girl.

  • Somehow I haven't purchased one thing. I think it's waiting to find out the sex, waiting to move, and a healthy dash of paranoia.
  • I want to get the nursery ready, but... my mom has said she will buy the crib.  So we are waiting on that.  My aunt bought the crib mattress, which is sitting still in the box in the nursery.  We have painted.  I have washed and hung up all clothes I have purchased (clearance and yard sales).  We are having a baby shower with my family the beginning of September, and my husband's family the middle of October.  My husband thinks we should wait to buy furniture incase someone might buy it for us or give us gift cards to buy it.

Ahhhh, I was feeling bad because my pregnancy app says "you probably have everything ready already", and I was like starting to break down at my not having anything ready situation! Ugh. I might go buy some baby clothes today though... OOOOH, maybe I will dedicate a drawer in my dresser for them. Progress.....

  • We just sold our place and are closing on the the first of July. The market in Hawaii is horrible, and there are so many cash buyers (who the hell has $900K in a bank account?) so it's been a challenge finding our next place. Our buyer for our place is allowing us to rent back on a month-to-month basis until we find a new place which is a little blessing. EXCEPT, I can't start purchasing baby things because our 587 square foot one bedroom condo has no room for anything. I wish I were in your shoes =(

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one!  I have the nursery pretty well set.  Now that I know the sex of the baby and we have a name, I've ordered some personalized items to polish things up even more :-)  I'm able to reuse some of my first daughter's newborn clothes and have been doing a bit of shopping with her, letting her pick out a couple things for her little sister.  It's adorable and so much fun!

@Sugarstar1784 I'm so glad I'm not alone in this! My H is in love with his cars, 76 Malibu and he just got a 73 International. Other than all the usual junk he has recently gotten the stuff to convert to fuel cells and is collecting the equipment to make an auto rotisserie. And tires for 4 vehicles and my horse trailer.

I cant complain too much, I never have to worry about car maintenance!
