Paranoid!

This has been talked about so often I could puke..however...I'm just paranoid enough to go there:

I had an appointment at exactly 18wks (but measured a little less than a week behind, like I have at every other appointment). The Dr. found a heartbeat of 144. Currently I'm 19wks5days & (from what I can tell) have heard the heartbeat just yesterday on my home Doppler.

What are the chances of a miscarriage at this point? I know I'm almost half way there! Just ready to feel those kicks that haven't happened yet : /

Re: Paranoid!

  • From what my OB has told me, chances drastically decrease to very very small percentages after 1. hearing the heartbeat and 2. getting out of the 1st trimester. if you are measuring consistently behind, then you probably ovulated late in your cycle (that is what happened to me and they pushed my due date back over a week). I think if you are still hearing the HB on your home doppler, than you are fine and try to just calm down because extra stress is not worth it. Feeling kicks don't always happen this early in a 1st pregnancu. It really depends on the babies position, etc. As a STM, I am still only feeling very intermittent movement. I have my anxious/paranoid moments also, but I think part of that it that I haven't had an appointment in a month and won't have one until next week.

I think it's normal to feel a little paranoid. I've been feeling movements for a couple of weeks now but I still have nightmares about miscarriage or of something going wrong at the a/s. Just try to relax. I agree with PP on the measuring behind. You probably ovulated late. If your OB doesn't seem worried then I would try to relax.  :)

  • You should really be feeling at ease as far as MC's go. My Doctor has repeatedly told me that the chances are so miniscule at this point. I haven't felt any movement either I don't think. A friend who just had her first told me not to expect them until 23-24. Sometimes if we've felt it before that we have no idea what it is... so we don't "count" them as movement. Just tell yourself weeks 23-24 so you don't stress, that's what I'm doing. :) I'm getting a little nervous for the big scan, just because I want everything to measure normal, and I feel like he hasn't done much measuring up to this point ... just hearing hb. My hb at my 16 week appointment was 148 so sounds like we are on the same path. :) Our babies are JUST FINE!

  • I am the same way! Very worried all the time! I just pray and trust that things are ok in there! I have started to feel some movement but it's few and far between as in I can go days without feeling her move! I think the hardest part for me is waiting a month plus between appointments! And I refuse to get a Doppler just because if I couldn't find her heartbeat, I know I'd freak out and end up in the ER! I tell everyone, if it weren't for the anxiety, I'd absolutely love being pregnant!
  • How you feel is understandable, but like pp said, try to not to over stress. The baby sounds like it's doing great and like pp said, the due date is probably off. I have been feeling the baby a bit these days. But on day when I don't I start to feel a teensy weensy bit anxious too...all natural. :)

I have a lot of tightness in my lower stomach also and it freaks me out but I'm sure it's where everything is stretching and growing..hopefully!

  • Good luck at the a/s on Monday!!

I'm sure everything is fine and after you get done worrying about miscarriage, you'll worry about them getting sick, then hurting themselves when they walk, not meeting milestones.  Its as far as I've gotten so far but from what I can tell,  we'll be worrying the rest of our lives and its normal!

  • Same boat right here!
I am pessimistic more often then not, my big sister calls me Chicken Little.
I have been worry that something is wrong since about 16 weeks. I last heard the HB on the Doppler at 15 weeks and today I am 18 weeks and my doc app and a/a are next Monday & Wednesday.
However, I borrowed one of the nurses stethoscopes at work today to see if I could hear the HB. and if I am not mistaken, I believe I did! It's enough to help me breathe till Monday!
We both just need to breathe I think.
  • I haven't felt any movements, but I had a great a/s today, so I'm not worrying about it. When my mom had my brother, she didn't feel him move until she was 6 months along. Her doctors had her come in every day for the doppler just to make sure he was still kickin' around in there. He was fine, and he had a VERY strong heartbeat, but his movements weren't all that noticeable! Don't worry about it. You've made it past some of the most important milestones, and there's no reason to believe anything is wrong.

  • There are always going to be things to worry about. It's a natural thing to be worried.

However, it seems like things are going well for you. Why get worked up over this and stress yourself out unnecessarily?

I'm really trying to make an effort to get control of my stress, in general, and enjoy this pregnancy. Less stress to me, seems like that's going to be better for the baby in the end.

  • It really helps me to stay busy with other things too. I know "technically" our lives do revolve around our pregnancies, especially if it's our first, but we also have a lot of waiting to do, and baby has a lot of growing. It's all great lessons in TRUST and patience, both qualities that are good for mom's to have! So I see it as God preparing me to be a great mother to my babies, and that whatever trials I face, is a lesson I'm supposed to learn. It's helped to ease my worry and anxiety some. If there's one thing I don't want passing along to my kids, it's my needless worry and anxiety - and my ability to rise above it starts right now.
