weight loss question

To all of you health and fitness mamas...

I have been losing all the baby weight, but it has been taking some time since I had gained 65 pounds. My legs and arms are now very skinny, but I am not losing anything in my stomach and face. What is the best way to target those areas?

Also, a bunch of my friends are doing the advocare thing and have lost a ridiculous amount of weight. I am nervous to try it because it isn't FDA approved, but I really want to lose the weight soon. Although they have been really successful, a few of my friends are beyond obsessed with it and talk about it 24/7. Has anyone used this and had a bad experience? I dont like to try anything new without researching it to death. I have been having a lot of knee trouble and I think losing the last 15 pounds will help, but I don't want to gain it back right away. Thoughts?

Re: weight loss question

  • DH and I did the advocare 24 day challenge the summer before I got pregnant. I really liked the shakes and the energy drinks. I used to mix the chocolate mocha one with ice and it was like a frappacino. DH liked the cleanse part. He said it was the best he's felt in a long time. I did loose a decent amount of weight and didn't gain it back. I was thinking about doing a modify version again. I do know that you can't take some of the supplements if you are breastfeeding.

  • I also never took the full dose of recommended supplements. They made me too jittery and I didn't like it.
  • I have a friend that sells it.  She loves the stuff.  She lost a lot of her baby weight with it...but that stubborn belly area is still a trouble spot for her.  She has also changed her eating habits and is working out regularly.
  • Ugh I just want to lose enough weight so that I can hold pants up like I used to and so my knees will feel normal. My ass is so much flatter than it used to be! I'm always pulling my pants up, even with a belt.
  • @asbromle lol saggy ass sucks! My ass is vertical. There is a straight line from my back to my legs and it is my ass.

@mainerocks I have been losing the weight naturally from my daily routine. I don't go out of my way to diet or exercise. My three kids keep me so active. My two year old is a sprinter, so I chase him up and down the block. I walk or jog 1-2 miles a day just chasing him. I try to plan natural exercise like a trip to the zoo to get some extra walking in. I am a full time teacher and in school with my kids and there really isn't time normally. Now that school is out, I can start a routine.
  • You can't really pick where the weight will come off, so you are sort of stuck there. Sorry :o

Never heard of the avo-whatever but I wouldn't recommend it. Those diet fad things usually seem to end up with some sort of lawsuit because of people dying from heart attacks. Not cool.

Switching up your diet plan and switching up cardio should help to beat a plateau.  What are you currently doing for diet and exercise?
I would say all of this.

You can't spot target fat loss unfortunately. Otherwise I would tick off th "lose last" box next to Butt and Boobs, instead of "first". >:P As others have said, cardio with some weights/strength training is your ticket.

I've lost my baby weight doing good old fashioned exercise (T25 is what I did) and eating sensibly. My butt is smaller than before, which sucks. My pants are doing the same thing. I'm going to dust off my Brazil Butt Lift workout DVDs and see if I can help that situation out.

No advice on the advocare thing.

If you want to add a bit of walking into a crazy day you could try walking on the spot while watching tv. I try to spend at least half the time in front of the tv on my feet moving. It has really made the difference with me.
  • I'm in the same boat. I have been working out pretty hard the last month and my arms and legs are starting to look good again. However, the midsection has not changed AT ALL.

One of my friends always said that a 6 pack is made in the kitchen, not the gym. Ugh. I'm afraid that is true. Eating healthier is my next goal. I wouldn't recommend something like Advocare, but just eating cleaner and more fresh foods with less added sugar. That's what I'm aiming for, at least!

  • @mystererae‌ I probably am bloated. I look like I am still a little pregnant in the belly instead of chubby. I would rather people think I'm chubby than pregnant. A few months ago a coworker asked me if I was pregnant, which sucked.

I am having trouble with my diet. I have a sugar condition so when I get hungry, I eat whatever I can to get it back up. I can't handle waiting for something to cook so I tend to grab whatever is easiest. I also can't skip meals and have to snack regularly. I need to come up with a diet plan I can handle that takes that into account somehow.
  • @mystererae‌ I would like to start doing that. I can't cook so I am at the mercy of my husband! He needs to lose weight too so I may be able to get him on board. I just need to find some recipes that will be easy for us to make.
