Stm + are double strollers worth it?

DH and I are looking at possibly getting a double stroller for when lo arrives. DD will be 22 to 23 months old when baby arrives. We have a stroller that we like, but it is a single stroller. I thought I could put dd in there and baby wear lo until the summer and then put lo in the stroller and get dd to walk since she will be almost 2.5 years old. Would this work or am I crazy?

If you have used a double stroller, do you like it? Could you have gotten away without it? What kind do you have and what do you like about it? TIA!

It really depends on your kiddo. I have a two year old who cannot stand to be in a stroller. I have him walk beside the stroller and hang on to the jogging wrist strap.

  • I had one and used it maybe three times then got rid of it was to hard to actually shop with so always ended up using a regular cart instead , to bulky to keep in the trunk so only worked a few places for us. I think it totally depends on the kind and the weight of it to make it easier for you. Something we didn't think about we just brought the first we seen on sale lol... will be getting another lighter more compact one this time around.

  • Couldn't live without it. We live right near a theme park and whenever we go there the boys sat in a stroller even at age 4, because it was so much walking and they got tired. I don't think your older child would want to walk long amounts if you do things like that or take long walks, etc.

  • Definitely worth it! I baby/child wear but there are just times a stroller is easier. My kids hate the tandem style strollers, so we have several side by side versions (all from yardsales)

Check in your area to see if you have any Moms of Multiples clubs, and if they do consignment sales. They have big ones in my sisters town, so it gives me a good excuse to go visit her for a weekend, and we get some great deals! :)

  • I think it depends on your child and your families activities level. We got a double stroller and used it quite a bit. For the last year I haven't used it at all. DD is 5 1/2 and I felt she was just getting too old and way too big to be riding in a stroller. We would try bringing it with for her little brother but she would freak if she couldn't ride in it. Now they both walk wherever we go. Zoo. Mall of america. To the park. I can't remember the last time I heard "I'm tired" or had to carry either of them.
We also got the graco duoglide stroller? I think that's what it was called.y personal experience hasn't been great. The wheels squeak very badly so I googled it and there were tons of complaints about the same thing.

I have the UBV and love it. I will buy the rumbler for it. But with that said I like the way the city select has both seats facing out. At this point I already invested in the UBV when we had DD so I'm not scratching it now. I'm also going to get the kick stand and see which she prefers.

  • For kids that close I would get a double for sure. It's all personal preference though, I don't like to wear for a long time in the summer, and I like being free while my kids are still strapped and safe. I have the graco ready 2 grow and really like it.

  • I've been asking around on this topic a lot lately - my DD will also be 22ish months when this peanut arrives.

I think I'm leaning towards the City Mini Double Jogger (cheaper) or City Select Double. I've heard great things about both.

  • @AJIrishMama‌ what kind of stroller is that?

  • It's a Graco Ready2Grow Classic Connect Double Stroller. We already have a graco car seat so it just works for us.

    Awesome. Thanks :-)

  • ds#1 and #2 are 4.5 years apart, so we didn't get a double then.  However, #2 and #3 will be 28 months apart and I 100% plan on getting a double.  Even if #2 doesn't ride all the time, he still likes to get in and out of the stroller and he's too heavy to carry for very long.

~after 34 cycles we finally got our 2nd little bundle of joy~

  • Yeah a $300+ stroller is so crazy to me. We'll be going with this one.

This is the exact one we have. I tested a lot of them at BRU and this one rides and steers very well! Also I love how you can configure it many different ways. My almost 4 year old is currently riding on the bench seat in the back.

I have a two and a half and 15 month old now and I have the phil and teds navigator. I know it is expensive but it is the greatest stroller I have ever used. It is super easy to maneuver and the second seat is underneath so it really isn't bigger than a single stroller. I got mine for 60% off at zulily. You can also buy them second hand because they are so durable. (No I don't work for them!)
  • We have a schwinn turismo we use for walks, the zoo etc. To me it's a must have. For shorter outings my 3 year old walks. They are 22 mo apart. I'm not sure there is such thing as a compact double stroller. It takes up almost my whole SUV trunk. We are going on vacation in a week and leaving it at home. We will just take a single for my 16 month old.
