August 2014 Moms

I'm so trying not to be a Debbie Downer but....

My mom got free tickets to a Yankees game an asked us to go. Normally I'd be excited but I'm totally dreading it. I'm large and tired and I just freaking hurt. The thought of the at least two hour drive one way and then all the walking once we're there does not sound like a good time. It's supposed to be really hot tomorrow too. It is a night game so it will be a little cooler but not much. My daughter's never been to a game either so my husband is excited to take her. I thought about just letting them go but I'm an anxiety freak and I'll be so nervous the whole time they're gone. Am I just being a big miserable bitch?

I wouldn't go either.  The thought of going to a Tigers game in this heat as big as I am...no way.
  • I agree with everyone else. Id enjoy the quiet house.. maybe take a relaxing bath.. enjoy some dessert..
  • We just had our anniversary and DH planned a day at the zoo then a Tigers game, normally would be a great day, in hot weather I was dreading it. Luckily it rained all day otherwise I totally would have had to say no
  • So you all have me pretty convinced not to go. I just said to my husband what if you guys just go and he said he probably wouldn't go because he'd be nervous about driving in the city. Especially with our daughter. I get it, he never drove much in the city and I learned how to drive there, but what do I do now :(
  • I just went to an angels game last week. While I love baseball the stadium seats were very uncomfortable and I had back pain till I got home. So if I were you I'd stay home

  • I can't see myself going to a game right now. As much as I love it I know my body wouldn't resist and I would ruin the fun for everyone else. Stay home, cool, and enjoy some alone time and if hubby stays home, maybe do something less drastic together like go for a stroll at the park and get ice cream :)
  • Well crap. I'm going to a GNO tomorrow night with some friends down to SD for a Padres game... My thinking was I need to enjoy getting out with my friends while I still can, hope I can hobble out of the stadium by the end! I'll admit though, it is a complete rarity for me to so anything at night without my hubby and kid, so this seems exciting to me just to get away ;)

  • Not at all! While going to a game sounds so exciting, I wouldn't want to go 8 months pregnant. That sounds hot, stick, and crowded. Can you just send DH and dd and stay home in the ac? Say you'll watch the game on TV and look for them on the camera! That sounds like an awesome Daddy-Daughter day.

Fwiw, I thought it would be a good idea to take my kids to the zoo two weekends ago... It wasn't. I *still* hurt from all the walking. My feet were so swollen, I had bruise marks from my shoes. And it was only 60 that day!

  • I guess I'll be the lone dissenter but I would go. I went to a Mariners game about a month ago and am going to another in a few weeks. The seat wasn't awesome but I sat for a while, got up to get myself a milkshake, sat for a while longer, got up to walk around, etc. The fun seems to distract me enough from the discomfort that I still enjoy myself. Besides, when will you have another opportunity to go to a game?
  • Personally, I wouldn't go. I'm hurting a fair amount myself, so between that and the horrible swelling I've had for the last three months, there's no way I would keep my sanity if I went. Stay home and relax or as PP have suggested, treat yourself to a mani/pedi night!

After your follow up post, I would probably just go.

Would it be an option to drive to your mom's and let H, DD and your mom go to the game while you hang out at your mom's house?  Then H wouldn't have to drive in the city and you would still get some time to relax by yourself, hopefully in some a/c.

  • I don't think sitting through the game or the walking sounds too bad.  For me the bad part would be the 2 hour drive.  I hate being in the car for a long time knowing I don't have access to a bathroom!  I think just knowing I can't pee makes me feel like I have to pee more often.

  • Personally, I would go, but I am a baseball lover. Lol. 8 months pregnant and all! If its going to be a pretty hot day I would hang out up above the seats where they sell food. Here in Pittsburgh at PNC Park its actually really cool up there and has a crazy good breeze. I guess how its configured makes it that way but thats what I've always done on hot days when I can't stand to sit in my seat. And I mean really…who doesn't want to sit there and chow down on every food imaginable?  :D

You are not alone - I would go too. I try to do some walking everyday, so that part wouldn't bother me. And we have stadium cushions, so I would bring those for the seat. I would love to indulge in some stadium food. For me, it would be one of those last outings without a child! Since OP had a DD, it would be a good time to go and ya have quality just the three of you time before the baby.

  • I wouldn't go. You'd be exhausted and dehydrated by the end of it.
  • So I was going to suck it up and go because I didn't want my husband and daughter to miss out but my stepfather had a family emergency so we ended up not being able to go anyway. It definitely worked out for the best though (other than the family emergency part). We went for a walk by the ocean instead. We were probably there for 20 minutes or so and when we left I was so swollen. My fingers looked like little sausages! I would have been a miserable mess if we went to the game.
