Re: Important pole about watermelon

  • Tajin is a seasoning you can add to fruit and veggies. It is mostly dehydrated lime and chili pepper. I finally bought some and I reeeeeeaaaally like it on watermelon and kiwi . I made this pole because I think DH is weird for not salting his watermelon, and he's the only person I know that doesn't. I can't believe you guys haven't even heard of it!

  • My dad is the only person I know that uses salt. I tried it a few times and I'm not a fan. I enjoy my fresh fruit plain mostly. I do like peanut butter on apple slices and chocolate on strawberries.

  • Am not at all a fan of watermelon but if i eat it then its always with either salt or vodka. Sometimes everclear.
  • I grew up with salty watermelon but I discovered tajin a few years ago. Mind blown! Salty-lime-mild spice yum! It's also good on pineapple.

  • Mash it up, add vodka, triple sec, some water, and little lime.  End of story.

  • I am disappointed with the results of this poll, you guise.
I forgot about portable margaritas. I need to make some right nao.
  • I always thought salt was a southern thing. My dad's family is from Arkansas and they do the salt thing. I've tried it, I prefer it in all of it's natural beauty.

Yellow watermelon is not ok. I think it tastes slightly rotten.

  • Maybe it is a southern thing, I didn't think about that. I have never heard of a yellow watermelon. Now I'm intrigued
  • @bunkinmama I read that they sometimes taste like honey. I need in on this shit.
  • We make fresh watermelon lemonade every summer. It's pretty tasty.

  • I said SS because, though the taste is fine, I think I am mildly allergic to watermelon. It makes my mouth itchy when I eat it, and my lips get puffy. Same with other melons and kiwi, so I stay away. I think that is good because after the description from @SandyClam‌, I can't imagine ever eating it again.
  • I grew up with putting salt on it.  Also, my dad would use a butter knife and cut pieces out because he didn't like getting his beard messy.

To me, adding the salt just makes it taste like salt water.  Maybe I've never had good melon.

  • I will gladly sit with the other watermelon haters. Gross.
  • If hating watermelon is wrong, i don't wanna be right! Its gross (but my kids love it).

I am born & raised in TN & before i met my yankee inlaws I had never met anyone who didn't salt their watermelon, so maybe it is a southern thing....
  • I love to eat it plain, or mash it and drink with sparkling wine and vodka and mint.

SS - I do not eat watermelon ever because it's nasty and has the worst texture ever. Like a mix between foam and veins.
Yes! Terrible texture, and the taste is like artificially flavored water. I don't know. Everyone else loves the icky stuff.

  • I'm buying a watermelon today along with that fancy fruit salt, and I'm going to eat it all 3 ways. I will update my review around lunch time.
  • Salt and watermelon? No.

    Mango and adobo? Hell yes.

OK I live in TN so maybe it is regional. I don't know anyone except my backwards husband who does not salt watermeon. He was born and raised here, too, so I guess he just didn't turn out right or something.
  • This is the first I've ever heard of salt on watermelon
  • Watermelon is it's own food group for me. especially being 6 months pregnant. Seriously, could eat a whole watemelon.

I have never salted watermelon and I have no desire to. That being said, one of my fave summer salads is a watermelon and feta salad. Feta is salty.

  • I have heard of salted watermelon but I'm up in NY and no one actually does it around here.
I probably heard of it from the southern people on the food network or something.

  • I cannot find that spice anywhere! My watermelon 3 way is not happening. I'm legitimately upset.
  • No but at a party recently I saw someone put watermelon in her ice cream sundae and pour caramel syrup all over it.  I thought that was kind of odd...
  • I don't eat watermelon.
