Baths

I'm not sure why, but the last week or so, DD has cried all the way through her bath. The only real difference lately is that we had been doing every other night, but have now switched to every night bc she's been playing outside more and has been dirty. Anyone have any suggestions?

Edit: She also switched rooms at school last week, which has caused a few meltdowns, but overall, even that seems okay.

Re: Baths

  • DD has been freaking out since pooping in the tub about a week ago.  I bought Crayola purple foam soap, bath markers, and tub finger paint.  Does the trick for about 10 minutes and then she realizes where she is again...

I think with the heat she's getting tired earlier too... She looks wiped out by the time we get her from daycare.  I told DH we should try bedtime 30 minutes earlier to see if that helps with before bed meltdowns.

  • Maybe she is more exhausted at the end of the day from playing outside more and adjusting to the new room. Maybe you can keep up the every other day for a little while longer.

  • I will second and third the people above saying she's more tired from playing outside more.  I noticed Morgan has been like this during baths recently so I pushed dinner up by 30 minutes and she was good during bath after.  She's in bed about 25-35 minutes earlier, depending on how long she wants to play in the tub, and she's been a bit easier at night now.

  • We've been having some issues with bath time as well lately that I'm blaming on the fact that he runs around naked, in & out of the pool/sprinklers, etc all day long so a bath is just pointless to him. He's done with water by the end of the day.

  • A 4th vote for "probably more tired." We're transitioning from 2 to 1 nap (a little behind most of you, I know) so lately they have been worn out by the end of the day....hence more bathtime meltdowns. Hopefully this phase is short-lived for you!

  • You could go back to every other day as well like pp suggested. I'm sure if you wash her hands up good and maybe run a washcloth over her little feet she won't be that dirty to wait for another day. At least until she's through some of these transitions.
