And sleep training really confuses me. My LO is 8 weeks and we have a bedtime routine of bath, swaddle, feed, and rock to sleep. He then sleeps for 5-7 hours. Typically, from 9:30pm-3:30am, eats, rocked back to sleep, then sleeps until 7am and is up for the day. At his naps, he is swaddled and rocked. He sleeps in a RNP due to reflux. For his age, I think he sleeps great and is doing just fine.
My question is: when do I start sleep training? What is the best method of sleep training? Should I worry about the transition from RNP to crib because he has slept in the RNP from day one? I am worried that he will always need to be rocked and won't be able to sleep flat.
I know you ladies aren't experts or pedi's, I'm just looking for personal experience or opinions.
Re: All this talk about sleep...
If you are going to ever do CIO, doing it before a baby has developed object permanence is cruel and relatively pointless. Object permanence is about 6 months give or take. Right now it sounds like you're doing great at setting up good sleep hygiene and routines.
What's worked for me so far is to be flexible, and patient. Use what works, ignore the rest. Each baby is unique and what works for one may not work for another, and that's ok!
My best friend cosleeps and does attachment parenting as well as full term breastfeeding (Past one year) and she swears by the No Cry Sleep Solution as well as the Baby Sleep Book.
Another book with some sleep help suggestions is Babywise, though I personally didn't get much out of it.
