Baby carriers & Baby registry

Oh yeah...my hubby told me the cutest thing last night..."I'm gonna be really proud of my baby and I wanna wear it!" lol...he doesn't want a wrap, but like a baby bjorn type thing....my problem is, there are just SO MANY to choose from....anyone have any advice for choosing one?

Also, how early did you start putting stuff on a baby registry? My sister said she is throwing me one but obviously not until later, lol, but I just wanted to know how early is too early to start putting things on there? Obviously, I'm a planner lol

I love, love, love my Ergo. I recommend it to everyone.

It's never too early to start your registry. I think I started after we had our anatomy scan last time.

  • Thank you! I was looking into them...I want to make sure I get something that supports the baby's hips and those seem really good! I think it's so cute that he wants to wear the baby so I want to get him a nice one!

  • My advice is to try them on in store once you're a little further along. I am a big fan of the ergonomic carriers. It's better for the baby's hips and my back. After several trials, I settled on the Beco Gemini. I am a bit on the short side (4'11") and it fit me best.

  • Whichever baby carrier you choose, always, always, always check and double check that baby can breathe at all times.  I recommend carriers that hold baby in the same manner you would, if that makes sense.  I made my own ring sling for my youngest and absolutely loved it - it would still hold him (he's 5 now) if I wanted to tote him around.

  • I also loved the ergo. It worked well for both me and DH, even though he's a foot taller. We have a toddler sized Tula that we use now since DS has outgrown the ergo, he still loves to be carried around!

I don't remember exactly when I started a registry, maybe around 20 wks. I think it's fine to start now, it's a good way to keep track of things you like.
  • I used a moby wrap for DS and when he got bigger I got the ergo. I love both of those. If you buy the ergo insert, either of these can safely be used on infants.

That being said, avoid carriers where baby faces out bc it puts undue stress on baby's hips. You want their legs to be up kind of like a frog - not dangling straight down.

Also, I used a sling once and hated it. It hurt my back within 10 minutes. The ergo and moby I have worn for extended amount Of time with no issue.

  • Ergo is the most versatile all around carrier.

DH LOVED wearing the baby in a wrap as a newborn, here's a pic of him carrying our youngest, Cezar, in a black moby wrap:

  • Loved my Moby wrap for infants, and loved the Ergo for older babies!

This.  I hated the Ergo.  Loved the Beco and the Lillebaby complete.  If you have a local baby wearing group you could also try all sorts of different carriers with them!  I'm lusting after a Tula but can't justify it since I have a Beco, Ergo, Lillebaby and a Moby.  Would also love to try a ring sling with this new baby.

  • Ergo carriers are great but if you want to go outside of the box a little, there are couple of moms who make them and have created companies now.  I haven't tried Tula, but that's one brand.  I have a Bamberoo and a Kinderpack.  Love both of them.  We used an Ergo prior to those.

  • I love my friends ergo and I have a beco butterfly. I love my beco too. Both are great
  • I would definitely recommend seeing if you have a local babywearing meeting because you can often try out different types (which aren't always sold in stores) to see what feels most comfortable. I ended up getting a Boba 3G which I have been very happy with. It has little stirrups so that it fits a toddler comfortable as well. Action Baby Carriers are a bit less structured which some like and the straps can be crossed (nice for front carrying) or uncrossed. Tula and Kinderpacks are also pretty popular as a PP mentioned.

I started an amazon registry but kept it private until I was set on what I wanted. You can even add things from other online retailers.

I could hold you for a million years to make you feel my love.
  • i wasn't a fan of the moby but i'm the odd one out here, so i'll still recommend it because it IS versatile.  (i got a sore back from it and i never got the hang of tying it by myself.)  i loved my ergo with the insert when DS was teeny and i used it up until he was 2-ish years old.  i also liked my maya wrap a lot, although i couldn't get the hang of it when DS was an infant, so i mostly used it for hip-hold when he was 9m+.

I also have the Beco Gemini and love it. DH loves it too and really enjoyed carrying DS in it when he was younger. It is very versatile in ways you can wear it, and it's supportive and comfortable.

Ergo!!!!! We started using it at a week old, and we still use it at 19 months! About to start the Ergo back carry - she loves it!

The ergo is nice, but I hated it for the nb stage! In fact we are just now starting to use it and he'll be 1 on Sunday. I much prefer the ktan, or the maya.

Eta: my husband still prefers the ktan over the ergo.

@LaBellaVida‌ did you use the infant insert? We didn't use it but heard people who did say they disliked it and disliked the Ergo for newborns because the insert is so bulky.
  • I love my ergo but I did use a Bjorn when lo was to small for the ergo.it was given to us so didn't mind that it only got used for a few months.
  • You ladies have been so helpful, thank you!!!!

  • We went to babies r u and tried on several different carriers, we added the bjorn miracle to our list because it seems very sturdy and was super easy to resize between my 5"2 and DH's 6"4 frames.

I started adding things to my registry after my first dr's appt.  Remember, you can start one, but you can keep it private until you are ready to share it.

Also, recommend you and DH going out and trying on the carriers you are considering.

Yes I did, but there is no other way besides rolling a receiving blanket up and having them sit on that. It just didn't feel "secure" enough.

Plus I hated putting it on, and is so much easier to throw a ktan in your diaper bag. :)

  • Start your registry or at least a list as soon as you think of things to add so you don't forget. I love the classic bjorn. I like that it clicks into place so you know it's in plus it's easy to get on and off
  • Ditto on trying them on. I loved the ergo, dh loved the Bjorn. Easy enough to nurse in either, best baby investment imo.

Hmmm now I am wondering how the heck I get a baby into a carrier from the car seat in freezing February weather. Do I go into the backseat next to the car seat and do it sitting? I heard from someone who uses a wrap kind that they wrap it before leaving the house so she isn't wrapping in parking lots... But transferring a newborn in winter sounds so chilly for them! Anyone have experience with these in cold climates?
My son was born the end of november and we live in cold winter canada. I didn't have any problems just opening the door and popping him in my carrier. a few seconds of cold won't harm them. They warm to your body heat super quick! I always used the moby wrap, underneath my oversized winter coat. very snug and warm! :)
  • I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and we have already started with the big decisions for our registry! Stroller car seats all that big stuff! Hubby also wants a carrier and we registered for a ErgoBaby! Looks very durable and comfy! He's excited to hopefully get this!

Yes! I had a Halloween baby and when we went out solo I'd transfer her from car seat to Ergo sitting in the back seat. Until I got the hang of it and could pop her in there quickly. Eventually you'll be able to do it with your eyes closed in a blizzard in 2 seconds flat.
  • ERGO! We used the Moby when DS was tiny, then as that got super annoying to wrap (when out running errands, not just at home) we switched to the ergo. He's always been in the 90% in height and weight and I can still wear him around in that thing! He'll be 3 in August!

It's easy to put on, easy to use, comfortable and we just leave it in the trunk of the car to have on hand. We hardly use a stroller.

It's only a problem if they are sleeping as the cold may wake them up. In that case. I take the infant car seat with me and may transfer them to the carrier when they start to get fussy.
