Using my MN for LOs MN?

My husband and I have chosen the first name Elise. The problem is that it has been super hard to pick a middle name. Then I paired it with my middle name which is Danielle and I absolutely love it.

Is it strange for our little girl to have the same middle name as me?

I don't think it's weird. I know some don't like it but I kind of see it like a nice thing for your mom since it's a name she obviously loved!

  • Not really, I know a lot of people that gave their children their own middle names. Tony Keith had a Joshua Keith,Amber Dawn had a Kylee Dawn, Amanda Kay had Skylar Kay....etc. its very common around here to do that, so its nothing new for me.

My mom and I have the same middle name (which is her mom's FN). My brother and dad also share a middle name, and my older sister has our other grandma's FN as her MN. Baby sis is named after 2 family friends. I liked having that connection to my mom, especially as the overlooked third child. ;)

I hate junors, IIIs, etc., but I think the MN spot is a great place to have a family connection.

  • I'm a big fan of family names as MN's.  DD's middle is my aunts MN.  A second daughter would either have my mom's MN or my pseudo grandmother's first OR middle name depending on which was we go.  Same for a son - he would have my Dad/ FIL/ DH's name as a middle or one of DH's uncles name as a middle

  • Not strange at all.  My sister has my mothers MN, and I've thought of using my first name as a MN for a daughter.

  • Thanks so much for the input. I guess I didn't realize how common it was because we don't have that tradition in our family. Maybe I can start it!
  • my dd shares my mn because it is my nana's name. ds shares dh's mn because it is his grandfather's name.

not weird at all. plus, once you are elise's mom, your mn rarely is mentioned. ever. haha.

lol that's true, most people don't even know my middle name outside of my family anyway!

  • I dont think it is strange. I have my grandmas MN and my daughter (hopefully) will have my moms MN.

My MN is Elizabeth and we've even discussed using it as a FN.  We ultimately decided to use my Grandmother's MN, which also happens to be my mom's MN.  I like using the MN spot for family names.

  • My mom's first name is my middle name. On my dad's side most of the girls have my grandmom's middle name as their middle name(Lee)

  • I don't think it's weird. It's kind of a tradition in my family for the oldest daughter to carry her mother's middle name. It skipped my grandmother somehow, but we're going on the fourth generation of my middle name. My daughter will have it as hers.

  • I love it!  Very pretty name.
  • My mom and sister share and mn and my other sister and her DD1 share a mn. It's pretty normal to me and I wouldn't side eye it at all.

  • Nope. Completely normal in my neck of the woods :-) My DD, Me and my Mom all share a MN, which is the FN of my mom's aunt (my great-aunt).
