Excited and mildly terrified (XP)

Well...my H found out today that he was selected for the overseas assignment he put in for. We're going to India! I am torn between thinking it'll be a really great experience and wanting to vomit from anxiety. It'll be good, right? Tell me it'll be good...

  • How scary & exciting! I hope you can enjoy it and have some awesome stories to tell. Ant chance you'll be anywhere near or other F14er in India? I don't remember where she was, and I don't want to tag the wrong person. Congrats on his new job! :)

I don't know either...I think it was @Hg45‌ that has family there. We'll be in Delhi.
  • Congratulations! What a great experience and adventure for your family

  • What an exciting life adventure! Congrats!
  • 1. Congrats! It will be good!

    2. As @Bookshelves‌ said it is totally what you make of it.

    3. (I apologize if this is racist, I really don't think it is) Indian people rock. They are caring and outgoing and fun to be around and really awesome. Pretty much every Indian person I've met I now consider a friend.

Awesome!! I can tell you whatever you need to know about being in India. It's a different planet here so get ready for an adventure.
  • Think of it as an adventure! It's so exciting!

  • That is AWESOME!!

My mom worked for a huge international company for years and years. We have lots of friends who are either from India or who have moved there for work. The ones who have moved LOVE it, have said it's one of the coolest experiences they've ever had.

Growing up, we spent a lot of time with her friends from India. Not only did I get real homemade Indian food all the time, but I got to learn a lot about the culture. It's fascinating.

PM coming your way later this afternoon -- I might know some people for you to contact!

  • Thanks everyone...I know it will be good, I'm just freaking out a bit.
@Hg45‌ I'm sure I'll have questions for you, I just don't even know what to ask yet!
    @Codypup‌ Thanks, that'd be awesome!
  • Congrats!!! it will be such a neat experience. India is a really neat country and the people are neat too. It might be overwhelming at first, but you will find the places you enjoy to visit, eat, etc and soon you will have some great friends! I was over for 3 weeks for a wedding. If you have some questions, I will answer what I can, though I am no expert. How long is the assignment for?

  • @Noethola‌ It's for 2-3 years.
  • This is such an amazing experience for your family. I understand it'll be a bit scary, but aren't all the best things in life a bit scary at times (think, having kids. SCARY)

Lol start with , 'how do I tie a sari?' ;-)

I'm in India at the moment and monsoons just started. It's the best season believe it or not as the summer is just crazy. Delhi is amazing because it's close to so many cool places and the best gol gappas (don't worry you will learn what gol gappas are very soon). I'm not on PM at the moment but I suggest start your basic research and the questions will come automatically. I am happy to connect when I am back in the US and give you a general idea of things, food, culture, Bollywood etc etc. I also have some expat friends in Delhi whom I could connect you with. Relax! Have an open mind and your gonna love it - this I promise.

PS: if you love food and cooking you are in for a GRAND treat of spices and currys.
  • Wow what an opportunity! I'm sure you will have a great experience.
