Car Seat issue.

I have an Eddie Bauer XRS 65. We installed it in our truck. I hate the way it is installed. We literally can not get it tight enough. When I go to pull up on the the strap to tighten the harness. The whole freaking seat moves. I'm hoping that maybe it will install in my car better, but I'm afraid that it won't. Has anyone else had this issue with their install. Is there something we are doing wrong? I have yet to try it in my car, but I think we will attempt this weekend. We do have a car seat program in the area but the next date isn't until July. She is within a few lbs of growing out of her infant car seat. I'm not sure we will make it to the date without having to switch.

Re: Car Seat issue.

  • I had the same issue with that seat when I visited my parents. They bought that seat for when we visit but I wanted to throw it out the window. I couldn't get it as tight as I wanted or anything.

As PP suggested, I would try looking for a local tech.

  • There is a site you can search for techs in your area. I'm mobile otherwise I would find it. It may be in the car seat post at the top of the page.

  • Dorel is the maker of the Eddie Bauer seats, and they are notorious for horribly difficult installs on about half of their seats. If it is difficult, I would assume it has nothing to do with the car and you just lucked into one of their mind-bogglingly horrible seats when it comes to the install (not saying it is, but it's entirely possible). It has to be capable of being installed correctly, but if you're having a difficult time now, I wouldn't get my hopes up for it getting any easier. I would look into returning that thing for something else.
Yeah I'm guessing that I am going to have a hard time in the car as well. My infant car seat is an Eddie Bauer and it fits so nice and tight. I thought it would be good to stick with the same brand. I guess not :(

Hopefully Target don't give me any problems. I bought the car seat over 2 months ago.

Have you knelt I. It while trying to tighten it? That's what our tech did and got the seat in very snug.

No I haven't. Will give that a try, thanks!

Target is a real bitch about returns beyond 90 days; if you're going to take it back, you might want to do it quick! I learned that the hard way, even though the item I bought was on my Red Card.

Instead of putting a knee in the seat try getting behind it (push the front seat forward so you have enough room) and push into the back seat with your hips. Back and down if that makes sense. You can kind of rock it, too. That should help compress the car's seat and possibly get a tighter install.

Personally, I'd get a different convertible. Graco Headwise/MySize or Chicco NextFit. There are others that are easy to install but I'm not certain of the names.

  • I have an appointment at 3pm with the police department. If they can't get a good install I'm going to return it.

  • Is it on a hump? If so, move to side. Are you putting your knee in the seat to weigh it down as you tighten it? That may help.
