sun block/irritated eyes

Can anyone recommend a sun block for me? My DS wipes/covers his eyes when the sun is in them (wont wear a hat or sunglasses) or when they get wet from the sprinkler - so he ends up with sunblock in his eyes. He gets a little swollen and bright red and because it hurts, he rubs more.

I'm hoping to find something SUPER gentle that won't irritate him or else its going to be a very long summer.

Thanks!

  • We had the same problem so we swithched to a sun stick for the face and haven't had a issue since. We use a neutrogena stick and the babies brand (pink)stick i forget the name brand.

  • I use the stick on his face too - it's not running into his eyes - its the block from his hands and arms transferring when he rubs :(

  • Have you thought about putting him in long sleeves? I put my LO in a linen shirt when it's hot out and I don't want to put a ton of block on him, and he has yet to burn. Baby Gap sells these, though they can be pricey.

Get a hat with a chin strap and a bungee cord around the head so it is not easy to remove and make it non-negotiable.  They take the hat off they sit in the stroller with the canopy over their head or go back inside.  Hat goes on every single time we go outside rain, snow, sun or cloud.  It's just not an option.  My 15 month old hated it with a passion but she knows she has to wear it and doesn't fuss or try to get it off anymore.

We took her to the store and tried on many hats...the hat she wasn't able to rip off was the one we bought.  After that it was training that it MUST be worn.  She now brings us her hat as a signal she would like to go outside...because she knows that the hat goes very time.

  • I use coppertone babies pure and simple.  it's tear free and it's not hard to find in a store, which is a plus.   I slather it on because DD also won't wear a hat or sunglasses and I've never noticed her eyes are irritated.

this is what we use as well.  I've never noticed an issue with irritation and my DS has very sensitive skin so I'm careful what we put on him.

I'm not sure that a hat would stop the sun getting in his eyes anyway.  You could try sunglasses with a strap around the back.  My DD wears glasses wand they have a strap and she can not get them off very well by herself.
