NBR - menu help, please!

I made three chicken pot pies this weekend - we ate one, and the other two are for a meal for a coworker/neighbor who just had a baby and another friend who just lost her dad in a car accident.  The coworker has a two year old and four year old (in addition to the newbord), and the grieving friend has a two year old.  So, my question - what side dish(es) should I deliver along with the chicken pot pie (which already has peas and carrots in it).  Salad?  Do kids hate that?  For some reason I just can't come up with anything good/am not inspired!!
