First round of shots and my heart broke (vent)

Let start by saying thi kid doesn't cry for anything I've been really lucky maybe he fusses a little when he wakes up or hungry but never a full on cry.... Well today I saw tears and blood coming out of his tiny legs because of the shots and I almost punched the nurse (not really I know it's not their fault) I cried like a baby.... I nursed him afterwards, he fell asleep but when he woke up he was in pain and I could do anything about it (gave him baby Tylenol but that doesn't take the full on soreness of the shots) I felt so helpless that I couldn't help my baby I tried nursing him rocking him singing to him and I couldn't calm him down until he fell asleep from all the cryingi felt like such a bad mom.

I never thought I could care so much for a tiny little person I've never had this feeling before this endless love for somebody he has my heart and today it broke seeing him like this I know he is going to get better in a couple of days but I felt so bad my poor little man

Today It finally hit me I AM A MOM!

Thank you for listening :) I just needed to her that of my chest

Re: First round of shots and my heart broke (vent)

  • I cried when mine got her shots too. We actually gave her meds beforehand so it wasn't awful but she was shocked by the prick and I immediately started crying. Ugh, not looking forward to the first time she gets sick, so much pain.

  • I cried too the exact same thing happened and I'm pretty sure it's happened to most of us. It's soo sad but it's the best so they are immunized

  • I was lucky with DS1, even as a baby, he'd cry just a little with the shots and calm down as soon as I picked him up. He got a flu shot at 2 yrs old and was too excited about the Spider-Man bandaid that he was getting, so the shot didn't phase him. DS2 goes in for his first round on Thursday. I'm dreading it because I don't want to make my poor little cutie cry!

  • I def cried more than my daughter did. Hearing her pained cry just tore me up. I was a wreck the rest of the day. And since we are breaking all of them up we are going back on Thursday for more. :( I feel awful.

  • Ours are next week...not looking forward to them. Would your dr let you nurse while he gets his shots next time? That's what I did for DS1 and was not too bad at all.

  • My 8-yr-old had to get stitches in his lip a couple of weeks ago and my DH had such a hard time watching that he almost passed out. So the feeling never really goes away.

DD has her first round of shots Monday and I am dreading it!!!

  • DS had one shot at his 1 month appt and I wanted to cry. He has 2 month appt on Monday and I really don't want to go. I hate his pain cry and I know he is going to get a bunch of shots on Monday. Plus, I am worried about any aide effects of the shots. I am just a mess when thinking about it.

  • Awwww...It's ok...I literally balled like a little baby! The doctor also put my little lady down and she rolled over for the first time which is great but she got scared and screamed bloody murder. I cried even harder for that. I can't believe how much I care for this baby!! YAY for being a MOM!!
  • We both cried during shots this afternoon. Now he is passed out in his swing. He doesn't look happy, but not sad either. You just have to remind yourself it's for their own good. Getting the diseases the shots prevent is worth the tears!
  • B. had hers today. I didn't cry, but I was fearing the rest of the day and how she would act. After her shots she hit a Mariah Carey caliber high note with her cry but stopped, nursed and fell asleep within minutes. She slept for 6 hours only waking to eat. Now she has been alternating catnaps and comfort nursing.

  • We had ours on Tuesday. I cried my face off. I had never seen her cry like that or turn that shade of red before. Broke my heart. The nurse was so good about it. I was apologizing for being a blubbering mess and she kept telling me that there was nothing wrong with how I reacted and just to cuddle her so she felt safe. Penny passed out within 5 minutes of having the shots and slept most of the day. then we had our worst night ever. I gave her baby Tylenol and she nursed for hours and hours. Finally got in the shower with her at close to 3 am and the warm water was enough to make her drowsy and she was out within a few minutes of being dried and in fresh Jammie's. Poor girl had a rough day.
