Federal court rules no religious exemptions for vaccinations.

I will save you the time and tell you right now not to read the comments.  It's like reading the worst anti-vaxxer drivel ever posted here on TB.  Just...don't.

In other news, this is a step in the right direction, IMHO.  We have a high anti-vaxx rate here because of all the damn hippies.  My girls get all their vaccinations because I will be gotdamned if they catch some 19th century dread disease because of some idiot parent's "opinions".  ETA: and a lot of the hippies use religious exemption as a reason on the non-vaxx forms for the school district and nobody double checks to make sure that person is actually, you know, religious.

Good! I overheard a coworker say "I'm not going to vax my kids, those vaxes are so bad for you. I'll claim religious reasons and they can't do a damn thing about it. IDGAF".
I just can't with the stupid.
  • That's awesome news. I work for an agency that requests immunization history forms frequently. I used to make people claiming religious exemptions explain why they were exempt. At first, it started as curiosity, and then I soon realized that so many people are full of shit and anti-vax in general.

Sob happy about this. Why any parents would not want to prevent disease is beyond me.
  • Good decision. You should be free to pursue whatever religious practices you like as long as those practices don't HURT OTHER PEOPLE.

Whoohoo! This is great news. I don't live in a hippie state but due to an increase in anti-vaxers, we have a measles outbreak. So awful. I'm glad something is being done.

Here too. And one of the places listed as a contact in the last known case was my kids' daycare. A baby there. Glad we're not there till Sept!!

  • Good. Now if only we could end exemptions in CA.

Probably won't happen. Too many hippies, and it's basically just worded as "I don't feel like it".

I don't believe (to my knowledge) that the catholic church is anti vax.  I actually think they are very pro?  I'm not sure what religions are truly anti vax (for actual religious reasons), anyone have insight on this?

It seems to me that most of the cases of religious exemptions are full of shit and are using it as an excuse, I guess this is obvious.  I feel like they should be making it harder to get these exemptions.  Like you need to have proof of your religion being against this, have some kind of proof from your minister something like that.  This would probably be really hard to enforce though.
