Head banging

When DS gets frustrated, he'll often bang his forehead against things (a closed door, the floor, my foot, whatever's handy).  Is anyone else's LO doing this?  I'm worried he's going to hurt himself someday.

Re: Head banging

  • E does this. A lot. He mostly uses the floor. It's kind of funny. He does this super dramatic stomp across the floor, falls to his knees, then cracks his head against the floor. A couple of times he's caught the seam between floorboards hard enough to split his skin! He pretty much has a permanent black and blue spot on his forehead.

  • DS will do this, then bang his head a little too hard and give me this hurt, offended look. I'm sorry, kid, you brought it on yourself.

Of course I cuddle him, but it's still kinda ridiculous.

  • I was going to post this today. Mine will bang the back of his head against his table seat, and it's a metal bar back there. I'm so worried about his little brain!

  • I have a head banger also and our pedi told me to ignore him. In the last month since his 15 month appointment and ignoring him he has done it much less. He has also become a lot more verbal. So hopefully that means we are nearig the end of our head banging days.

While mine doesn't head bang, he does hit himself on the face and head, equally disturbing! I just keep ignoring and explained to DH and DD that it's normal and will pass...
This! It seems the more I pay attention to it, the more he does it. I also noticed it happens when he's frustrated or bored (mainly the car). I was with my in-laws recently and happened to mention it to them and they noted that both my nephews went through the head banging phase as well (they're now 2 and 4). Sounds like another weird toddler thing they just need to grow out of!
